I completely agree with you. I suppose that people might think that it somehow means that the rape victim is not a virgin or something like that. I think that's a terrible way to look at it, since the victim has absolutely no choice in the matter. Instead of judging such people we should be helping them get over the terrible psychological trauma.

Most people look down on people who have been raped because:
Number 1: It was most likely they got raped late at night, and if you had strict enough parents you would be home before it got dark , so that most likely someone won't attack you during day-time.
Number 2: To attract a raper, this person may have been wearing slutty clothes, and acting like one at the time when the raper was near.
In my opinion it is wrong to look down on people because they got raped. You are right, it's not their fault but in some cases they could have prevented the attack if they had been more responsible.
I hope this helps and God bless..x

Right now, its because of what is happening with the Duke case. The accuser was just pointing fingers. And more and more things in the case are being proven with no evidence to back it.
And with other people that are raped, people think that it is their fault. that if they wen't at that place at that time it wouldn't have happend. Well if she wasn't there, another woman would have been, and she would have been raped. Its not the woman's fault that a rape happens. Nor a rape to a man.

There's more sympathy for rape victims nowadays then there used to be. Some people may assume that a woman who was raped was slutty, or putting herself out there or "asking for it" or using bad judgment. It's still like this in many countries. It is also a very bad and taboo crime, people are generally not comfortable talking about it.

Well at least we don't live in a society where the victim has to be killed to protect the family "honor"
Thats the very meager silver lining to an awful societal reality.
Society will evolve, just not soon enough.

If people at your school are saying this, and I don't doubt it, its because they are listening to what their parents say about it. Remember that if they say it about someone else, they will also be unkind and talk about you behind your back, too. Don't be friends with anyone who thinks that anyone, boy or girl, who is raped is a bad person, because its simply not true!
Take care.

I dont think it is so much about people who have been raped, but more of the people like the Duke Lacross acuser who say they were raped for attention.
