We are breeding our female Boston Terrier for the first time. she is 2 and a half years old. This is her 3rd heat. We have never bred a dog before and we have a few questions.

First, how long do they stay in heat on average. We noticed her last heat lasted approx. 14-15 days. Also, we were wondering how long the gestation lasts. And how many puppies can we expect.

Thanks, in advance for any information or personal experiences. We really appreciate it. Thanks again.

I do hope that you are aware that at least 1/3 of Bosties have to have a C-section, as they often cannot whelp the large headed puppies naturally. I would certainly call the vet, to see how much you need to save for the C-section and the ultrasound, that has to be done at 55 days gestation, to determine whether she will whelp naturally.
To answer your question, the heat will last about the same as it has in the past, and the gestation is between 58-68 days, the average being 63 days.
Average Boston terrier litter is 4 puppies.

The estrus of a canine is as follows: 9 days coming into "heat", 9 days in & 9 days going out. The optimum time for breeding is between the 12th & 15th day since the 1st bloody show. Gestation is normally 63 days +/- 4 days. After breeding, start checking your bitches temp twice daily on the 56th day. A canines normal temp is 100/101 degrees. When she drops 1 degree, she will whelp within 24 hrs. Since this will be her 1st litter you should be there to assist until she takes over. Do not allow the breeding session to exceed 3 days.

Dogs are in heat for 21 days regardless of breed.Gestation is average 63 days but can be as early as 57 or as late as 67. Bostons can have a single puppy up to usually 4. Be aware taht before breeding your Boston and any dog you mate her to need to be evalauted for breed standard, have had & passed health testing (not just simple vet exams), both dogs also need to have all of their AKC paperwork in order and have research done on pedigrees to study for health, breed standard & longevity.
Also be aware that Bostons have a very high rate of emergency c-sections and still births among other whelping problems.
I would suggest thinking twice before breeding. You could very well lose your girl as well as pups and/or it can be a very expensive undertaking.
Breeding is a BIG responsability.

They stay in heat, about 14-20 days, but usually only receptive to a male for about 7-9 days. About 63 days later, you get puppies. I would expect between 2-6 puppies. Have you done all the testing on the sire and dam? You don't want them to pass on health problems to the puppies. I would get your dog fixed, but I'm sure you've already made up your mind about this. To many dogs being destroyed daily.
