September, 1947 the Air force was established as a separate branch of the US Department of Defense. Folks in the old "Army Air Cops" were offered the option of staying in Army, or moving on with the US Air Force. Over 90% moved onto the USAF.
The Army found it very difficult to use the Army Air Corp in a copacity befitting the newly developed Air Force. Yet the most difficult part was creating an enlisted staff loyal to the production of air craft and identifyig and devolping war tactics to lessen the war effoft and hasten an end to the current conflict.

The first war that the United States Air Force fought in, as a separate and distinct branch of the military, would be the Korean War. Prior to the Korea War, the "Air Force" was part of the United States Army and called the United States Army Air Corp.

Korea. In the late 1940's, the Army Air Force became the US Air Force, a seperate service. The Korean War started in 1950.

Technicalitys as the WWI so Called auxillary force was an US army unit assigned but not attached to English French and US combined command structure. Hense the rm auxillary force, to work with the Armys' of all.

Grandfather for a time was stationed as guard to them and had pictrure of himself and Eddie Richenbacher and pictures of other aces some from Escadrille Days. He wrote his mother from France on his fifteenth birthday.

Korean conflict but no wars as of yet.

As an aside for trivia lovers, the term "Brown Shoes" was given to those who had served in old Army Air Force that joined in upon formation of the United States Air Force to differentiate them from the new recruits.

Technically the USAF did not fight in a war till the Korean war. Prior to 48 there was not USAF. The USAF was awarded their own branch based on their decisive performance in WWII. Prior to that each branch of the service had their own air arm. Most signifigant was the US Army Air Force.

World war one. It was called the American Auxiliary Air Force at the time and they were only overseas for a year but they were there. You guys are way off.
