I'm 21 and i didn't go to college when i was younger... but now i'm thinking it's probably the best course of action, if i want a good job. I have various skills, but nothing on paper. Am i too old, will i be surrounded by horny 16 year olds? Because i don't find that too appealing. Perhaps courses i can do at home are the answer? And advice?

Thanks in advance.

You're only 21 and you are concerned that you are too old for college? You are NEVER too old for college. Get going.

I'd say you're still young. At a community college I used to teach at in Florida, the average age of the students was 27. Of course, community colleges (at least here in the States) tend to cater more to the "nontraditional" student who has a job and goes to school nights.

There is a huge difference in maturity levels between a 16-year-old and a 21-year-old. But I think you'll be able to find plenty of mature-acting fellow students. I don't know how schools work in the UK, but if you were in the US I'd definitely recommend NOT living on campus in the dorms. That's where you'd run into the worst of the immature behavior.

You are never too old to go back to college. Especially if it is something you need to take your career or other endeavors to the next level. Don't let being around younger people keep you out. Besides in your case it is only 5 years, later in life that won't seem like so much. Plus, who knows they might look to you to help them because of your real world experience. It all depends who you choose to spend your time around.

if you are serious about your education, pursue the path the gives you the knowledge and credentials you need at a cost-effective price and value.

Good luck - and remember you only get old when you stop learning.

You are NOT too young for college....no way. I think it's great you are considering this.

What you can do, if you need A levels, you can do these during the day or at evening class where there is a great age mix, if you prefer.

Then if you want to do a degree....all ages there too.

I know, because I did it....I was 30! I qualified as a teacher. It took four years.
I certainly wasn't one of the oldest there either.

Go for it! Just think where you could be a couple of years from now?

Best wishes

No, you are not too old for college. I am 22 years old and a junior in college. Your age should not make a difference because you are attending to learn and earn a degree.

I attend The University of Memphis and I have talked to undergraduate adults in their 40's or more. These adults are attending campus classes because they want to go further in their career field.

As for online classes or campus classes, that all depends on what you prefer. I would suggest you at least try the campus classes first, this way you will have the experience and the friends you make on campus.

No you aren't too old! I went when I was 18 (not 16) for about a year or a year and a half. I decided to go back last semester and I just turned 23. You should definately go back. I feel like it is alot easier for me to focus now that I am a little more mature. There are lots of people going back that are in their 40's and 50's as well.

Absolutely not! I have no knowledge of the UK systems, but I didn't start college until I was 36 (going very part time). It's the best thing I've ever done--not only for myself, but for the security and options it will bring to us when I'm finally thru. I've started at a community (2 year) school, not sure if that is available to you? There is a wider mix of ages, which is nice.

Good luck!

You're never too old to learn.

I went back and did evening classes between 28 and 31, and then again last year. Trust me, you won't be surrounded by annoying children. Most centres now do classes designed specifically for adults. Contact your local centre to find out what classes they do - this is a great time of year, as many of them start short courses in March/April.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!!

You're never too old for college. At 21, YOU are definitely not too old for college. Show me a 16 year old in college and I'll show you a budding genius. Freshmen that go right to college from high school are at least 18 or 19 and seniors are 21 or 22.

Go for it!!!

I graduated at 27, you are not "too old". Times are chaning and more now than ever ppl are wanting to change careers and alot of times that involves going back to college, I didn't have a single class where there wasn't some age variety (meaning not everyone was 18). Besides 21 isn't exactly old...

My mom went back to college at 45. You are NEVER too old. I'm 40 & have been thinking of taking a few courses. Night classes tend to have older people but you're one of the young ones so take day classes
