Do you mean after they arrested for it or after they are convicted?

Both will depend on the severity of the assault and what kind of criminal record the person has. Here in Canada, if the assault is minor and the person has no criminal record they can have their sentence suspended as long as they participate in a "partner assault response" program. They will also have to keep the peace and be of good behaviour toward their partner for the length of the probation.

After they are arrested they are usually held for a bail hearing (usually next day) where they may be released on a bail order with conditions (if they have no/minor criminal record and they are not a flight risk).

well the police would have to do investigation.. as these would be considered very serious allogations.. and if there was proof that one partner had been violent to the other then theres not telling how long he could spend in jail.. years sometimes
