Yes it is, that is why they have a cam and crank position sensor. If the timing belt breaks or skips time, the car will automatically shut down to avoid damage.

Unfortunately the sensors fail from time to time - and the only way to tell if that is the problem is to replace them...

as of right now the only engines avaible in the focus are 2.0 L and 2.3 L. go to ford vehicles and you will find this all out.

They all shut done if the timing belt breaks.
