An ER resident is a Doctor who is a resident in the hospital and he/she is doing their time in the Emergency Department of the hospital. They have rooms in the hospital and they are on call henceforth called residents. All Dr.s must go through a residency before becoming a full fledged Dr.

An ER resident is a student who has graduated from Medical School, and is seeking a career as an Emergency Room Physician.

After Med School, all MDs must go through a period of residency in the field they wish to work in. These residencies can last from 2-4 years, depending on the specialty.

Residents ARE Doctors, but they do not have a specialty yet.
