They can tell. And they ask you to come back if you're bleeding afterwards.

You can often check the record of the doctor who will be doing your colonoscopy. Many doctors have puncture-free records, while others have many incidences of puncture. It probably correlates with the amount of practice they have, both frequency of performing colonoscopies and total number performed (and possibly the number of years of doing them and how recently they will have done their last one).

I would think that it's highly unlikely as they aren't using any sharp instruments. Also, they aren't using much force to move the camera through.

If anything was punctured, they would know right away, since the camera would show it on the screen.

When my mom went to get her's done, the doctor said its a 1 in 50 chance of that happening. I am sure they can tell if its torn, because they have that camera up there and they go VERY slow to make sure nothing will happen.
