it's defo gotta be New Wave Tattoo in Muswell Hill. They have a world famous tattoo artist, Lal Hardy, although mine wasn't done by him. They have tattooed many celebrities from around the world and my friend recommended me and I am really happy with mine. Be prepared to pay a littte more than some, a design on the back of my neck cost me 80 quid but it's well worth it compared to another skanky one I had done elsewhere. Check out their website.

I used to go outside of London for tattoos because of the costs, then I found SKINSHOCK in Croydon. They're excellent. They're well priced, but obviously getting tattooed by the owner will cost the most. He specialises in fantasy and biomechanical tattoos, but the other artists have a wide range of talents.

The lowest minimum I've ever seen is $50 per hour. High end can go really high. Bob Tyrrell (awesome portrait artist) charges $150 an hour. Kat Von D's minimum for portarits starts at $700. That should give you an idea. Good luck!

I'm not tattooed but my ex-boss was, by the above-mentioned Lal Hardy. The tattoo was based on a piece of artwork ex-boss was particularly fond of, and it's quite striking.

Not sure of the prices, but Eclipse in Camden (near the underground station) is really good.

i know nothing of shops in london, but i know that you can expect to pay about $100 an hour for a good artist... if not more if you found the "world renouned" one that someone suggested.
