For example, these verses seem pretty unequivocal.

(Mat 16:28 NRSV) Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

(Mat 24:34 NRSV) Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place.

It will happen in the disciple's lifetime. Yet it hasn't happened.
How do you reconcile this reality with your stated beliefs?

The bible was written my men, and complied by men, edited by men, for political reasons. There is no reason EVER to believe something so blindly.

"(Mat 16:28 NRSV) Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

The apostle John, SAW "IN VISION" the son of man coming in his kingdom.

Rev 21:2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Rev 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.

"(Mat 24:34 NRSV) Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place."

The culmination of all these things happened "IN VISION" in John's lifetime and therefore, in their generation!

And also, don't be so sure that these words weren't meant for the present day readers of these words!

"It will happen in the disciple's lifetime. Yet it hasn't happened.
How do you reconcile this reality with your stated beliefs?"

It WILL happen in their lifetimes! The disciples will LIVE AGAIN and witness all of these events first hand!

Both in Isaiah 66: 8 and Ezekiel 37:21 it was prophesied that God would gather up His people from the nations and re establish them as a nation. In one day.
On May 14th,1948 Israel was declared a sovereign state by the League of Nations.
This had happened after 2000 years of being in exile and having no country to call home.
Jesus was referring to this prophesy as He told about the fig tree, which represents Israel and stated that when the generation that sees the fig tree come out into bloom, that this generation shall not pass away before seeing the fulfillment of His return.
This is one of the most significant fulfillment of prophesy that has been witnessed in our generation that was not fulfilled in any other generation since the time of Christ, marking for us a timeline of events that have already begun since 1948 as more and more prophesies are being fulfilled.

Matthew 16:28 refers to the coming of the HS in Acts. That was fullfilled! That has nothing to do with the end times!

With regard to Matthew 24, he is giving a complicated message that has a duel and dichotemous point. At the same time, he is describing both the end times and the 70AD destruction of the temple and Jerusalem. Once you understand that, you can easily pick out which elements such as "not going to back for your cloak" are to be interpreted as the impending doom of Jerusalem and the end times. The 2 mirror each other in significance and content.

Just because parts of the Bible are hard to undestand doesnt mean it cannot make sense at all and is in no way just grounds to throw your hands in the air and give up. Dont give up on God so easily and he wont give up on you!

Israel's rebirth-reborn on May 14, 1948. Luke 21:24
Plummeting morality-2 Timothy 3:1-4
Famines, violence and wars-Matt. 24: 6-8
explosion of cults and the occult-Matt. 24:24 1 Timothy 4:1

There has been a falling of our world a little bit everyday--if you study the whole Word you will see that just about all the prophesies have been fulfilled. "Only the Father in heaven knows the hour and the day."

In reference to Mt 24:34, which generation was Jesus talking about, the one that was alive at the time, or a future one?
You need to look at the verse in context to get its true meaning.

And what about all the OT prophecies that were fulfilled during Christ's first advent, such as his being born in Bethlehem of a virgin, his crucifixion, his betrayal for 30 pieces of silver, and many more. Daniel chap 9 even prophecies the exact day of his triumphal entry into Jerusalem.

Many scholars believe Matthew 16:28 to represent what took place shortly after, when Jesus took Peter, James and John to a high mountain and was transfigured (His appearance changed to that of His glorious body) before them. This would be the form in which He will appear when His kingdom will be set up on the earth.

The footnote in my NIV Bible mentions that "generation" in Matthew 24:34 can be translated as "race", as in, race of man.

Prophetic Signs and Their Significance

Just because some have not come to pass YET, do not mean they will not. Actually ALL have come to pass, except those of the Great Ribulation, if you study the books of the Bible. Revelation in general has many, but other books also hold prophecies which have and will come to pass.

If we study the WHOLE Bible we will better understand prophecy, we will find that some things which we may never hear or read anywhere on or offline, will help us to discern and understand it in full. Many things written in the scriptures can be used to explain other things in other scriptures. This is one of many reasons God's Word tells us to study to show ourselves approved. God wants us to study His ENTIRE Word not only portions of it, yes we can take little bites at a time to get it down into our hearts and minds a little easier, however we are to eat the whole loaf of bread in order to be full.

Scholars have concluded that one-third of the Bible is prophecy-foretelling events that will come to pass in the future. The Bible is the only book in all the world that has dared to prophesy of events that will occur hundreds or thousands of years in the future. The prophet Ezekiel was called to prophesy "of the times that are far off" (Ezek. 12:27).

Fulfilled prophecies of the Bible are proof beyond dispute of the Living God Who knows all things from the beginning to the end. There are hundreds and possibly thousands of prophecies in the Bible that have been fulfilled. Dr. Harold Willmington of Liberty University has listed 416 Bible prophecies that have been fulfilled in accordance with their projected time table. Every prophecy of the Bible that should have been fulfilled to this date has been fulfilled. To cite just one example, Moses prophesied that because of spiritual apostasy Israel would be scattered into all nations (not just Assyria or Babylon, Deut. 28). Moses also prophesied that in the end of the age Israel would be regathered out of all nations (Deut. 30). After Moses, prophet after prophet to Jesus Christ foretold the dispersion of Israel into all the world, and then their return.

They will. God granted an apostle eternal life as a human too. So that means that an apostle is actually still alive today. Thats not a joke. The end time actually begins the moment adam and eve were cast out of eden. Eden was for eternity and as God planned, so the very second it was disrupted, the end time took effect. We have been in end times for 6000 years. Only do not look at it as an extensive period of time, b/c to God that is as seconds.
