I was flicking through an old testement, reading the bit about the plagues of Egypt. I was really shocked by how violent the book is, with the egyptions killing jewish babies, and then god killing egyption children. Is god psychotic or what? Why didn't he kill the egyption adults who'd done the killing of the jewish children? I can't worship any god who commits enfanticide.

I love it. We can't judge Him!

Oh but we do and we stop anyone from doing these things in his name.

And for you who say oh He changed in the New Testament - disregard the Old Testament, where does it say that. My reading did not turn up any verse that said "said rules, laws and practices are subject to revision based on arrival of my Son or any advances in technology, science or human rights legislation.

Jehovah is homophobic, racist, mysoginistic murderer. He has no authority over me. And don't even get mestarted on Allah....

it is people who are mean and violent, not God, but to answer your question to the best of my abilities as a Christian, these plagues were brought down as punishment for wrongs, not just because God was bored. You need to read the entire bible, not just pick out parts and pieces of it to try to prove a point of some kind. If you read the entire thing, then it should make a little more sense, anyone would get confused just reading certain passages without knowing what led up to these things, or what happened after these things. Keep an open mind and an open heart, it is ignorance and defiance that keeps people from understanding what is written and what it means. Just remember, you are an individual, and are free to believe what you want to believe, no one should try to force you to believe, that choice is up to you.

The plagues were done in order to show God's power and glory among the peoples. They continued and the severity grew worse because the Egyptians and Pharaoh especially hardened their hearts and would not let their people go. God allows bad things to happen to people because we live in a broken world. God will someday punish those who reject him and his will, but for now he is patiently awaiting people's repentance. Who are we to judge God, whose understanding is above ours. Does he not have his reasons for his justice? This same God gave the Egyptians many chances. By the way, he is not homophobic, racist, or a murder but he is just. He has rules because he's a God of order. If you look at Exodus, it writes about God's great concern for Israel's suffering, and his desire to bless them with a better future. In Genesis, before God wipes out Sodom, Abraham saves the Sodomites from their captors. Abraham witnesses to the King of Sodom about God. Even the king of the most wicked people, God gave a chance to change and follow him.

Ha thats nothing Richard the Lionheart in i believe the Third Crusade when he fought Salladin's army, he actually ordered his troops to kill gut roast and consume women and children while their fathers watched. No bullshit, but the world is a violent place and every religion belives in a lower level human worth killing. Religion is just traces of the first system of government.

Love does not mean bestowing all on the beloved. In fact, when you watch a show like “Nanny 911” you will see that children without proper love and discipline grow up unhappy. Sure, violence was out of control. However, God worked with mankind to allow mankind to continuously evolve closer to a life without violence. In fact, reviewing history, and seeing how far we’ve come is a huge part filling my belief in God. Sure, we still have a long way to go, but for the most part, we’ve come a long way baby - and that’s testament.

God didnt kill the jewish children. Sometimes it takes someones life before some people get the picture of what God is calling u for. Like for you...God could send plagues on u...and u may not get the point right away, but one day it may take someones life just for you to see that God is not evil, he is good...because He could've let u burn in hell...but instead He's trying to help u. and when God sent those plagues He was telling pharaoh that he needs to let His people...go, and when he didint let them go, pharaoh had a son. God told them to take a sheep and put a cross on the door, God didnt just do it for fun, He warned them! and pharaoh didnt believe Him, even though God said He would send plagues and He did, and pharaoh still didint believe. so when pharaoahs doors wasnt marked, his son died...pharaoh wouldnt give in still! and those other people, God warned them, some people listened and depended on their faith, thats wy jews celebrated Passover, becuz not all the children, their people listened. those who didnt, just didnt believe or have faith in God, so the Angel of Death came through, there goes the first male child whether they were a baby or an adult. thats wat happened...God gave them a warning, it was their fault.

i hope u understand if not...then u probabaly dont wanna hear this but oh well, ill pray for u.

Don't worry about it, there is no god anyway. Its just a way for people to cope with not having real and tangible "meaning of life". Every culture does it, it's the way weak people convince themselves that there is some greater power etc.

Or maybe it's not our place to judge God. I think it goes the other way around.

welll, I agree. this sounds insane, but if you stomach past the first few pages, thechurchofsatan.com offers insight. I was once a strong christian, until I read the parts of the bible that they don't assign you in sunday school.... beleive it or not, satan is more reperesentitive of life and knowledge than the old tesament god.

also, christians can find some bizzare reason behind it, though it eludes me. I guess they were sinful. :(

Well my friend "god" is bipolar, or a manic depressant. I don't understand it either. That's why I am an atheist, well that and I use logic not faith. the judeo-christian god is a very jealous god, much like a bad ex is.
