I want that people understand that infection has to do with your immune response of your white blood cells. If you have an infection the doctor can easily diagnose an Urinary tract infection from your urine sample. Your urine comes out from the urethra and your period (blood) comes from your vagina. In your case you just need to get the sample previous hygiene, so the test results wont be affected.
Anyway if it happens that you dont get it properly, test results will not change dramattically because of your menses. You still will have White blood cells. The only thing that the doctor may found abnormal is Red blood cells slightly elevated in the urine, but that is because you are bleeding. Don't worry the Doctor is going to ask you about all that. Good luck with your appointment.

I believe the signs of infection can still be detected by the urine test, I would definitely still go to the doctor tonight. The urine comes down a different tract than your period. Also try www.mayoclinic.com for questions. It's a great resource for health issues. It doesn't take the place of a doctor, but it has a symptom checker, and you can email questions to specialists. Not sure how fast they will get back to you, in any case definitely go to the doctor. Never wait with a bladder infection.

Drink cranberry juice. Ocean Spray, not the cheap store brands, they are watered down. About 12 ounces per hour for 4 hours, then finish the 2-liter bottle at your own pace. It has a chemical that clears up UTI's. (urinary tract infections) This is real, no joke! It works, and if you start soon it will save you a trip to the doctor's. Best of luck.

No, your period won't affect the test results. But are you sure you're having your period? Many women experience blood in the urine when they have a bladder infection - it's actual blood in your pee, and it's not your period.

it shouldnt...if you have an infection it will show up whether you are on your period or not....I have had several bladder/urinary problems, so I do know that if you do have an infection, go to the dr as soon as possible!! If you experience alot of pain, try drinking cranberry juice throughout the day, cranberry juice is very good for you and it flushes thru you...trust me, if you drink cranberry juice and start feeling relief, you definitely have a urinary tract infection! good luck!

They will make you do a "clean catch" where they give you these little wipes to clean your 'area' down there. That way when you 'catch' your urine, it will be free of any other bacteria. Also, the bacteria that is in your urine because of a bladder or urinary tract infection doesn't have anything to do with your period, so you will be fine.

It can if you don't do the urinating into the little bottle thing correct. Make sure you follow the nurses instructions on how to give a proper urine sample. Getting your period blood in the sample will definately contaminate it and won't give a proper result.

they will ask you those questions and should be able to determine if the infection is from your bladder or elsewhere. Just be honest with the doctor on all the questions.

Let the doc know you are menstrual so they can collect your urine with a catheter. The lab checks your urine for blood cells to determine if there is an infection. You will get a false positive if you are menstrual and collect menstrual blood with your urine.

The tests they run these days rules out that the blood is menstrual, so just tell the doctor you are in your period so that they can be aware.
