Gap years are not a right, and if I were you I'd stop faffing around and get a job. When I went to university only the slackers took a year out - and another, and another......get into a career - you can't justify taking time out, you will be behind and will lose out. What are you going to tell interviewers? That you found yourself? learned how to build huts in a socially responsible housing scheme? that stuff only works for the likes of prince william, because we indulge it. Get into the real world. I started my first part time job at 13 and went through to university in full time education to hold down a presitigious career - without having the "right background". There is no substitute for hard work.

Hi I spent a year travelling round the world including Aus, NZ and Fiji its really cool and there are 2 many places that I could suggests that you go. Some of my favourite's were in New Zeland, I spent a lot of time in Queens town on the south Iland it was really Great but a little expensive (check out the world bar if you decide to go there). While I was a way I manged 2 fit in Nepal this was really good because it was so off the beaten track. I am sure were ever you go you will have a good time. I am sure you will get lots of advice but the best peace that I received before I went was to "take half as much stuff and twice as much money". I hope that I have been of some help enjoy your self were ever you go

Why bother? Why not just go for a short holiday rather than a gap year? The point of a gap year is to go somewhere different and try something new. Australia and New Zealand are very similar to the UK and you will just end up working in a job (e.g. bar work, secretarial) that you could have done over here. So better just to take a holiday. If you want to have a gap year, go somewhere more interesting.

OZ...for sure, go and get yaself a working visa for a year and you will have a blast!...Myself and my now husband did it in the year 2000 and though it was hard being away from home for so long the experiences stay with you forever. In oz you have the chance to move onto new zealand and maybe even to do thailand on the way there or on the way back home.We bought a little car whilst in oz and then sold it on via one of the back packers hostels and you can get back nearly what you paid in the first place. The weathers great and its so so cheap to eat out most nights and the drink is good and cheap too, most restaurants etc allow you to bring ya own booze when ya eat there. If in doubt then go into a good book store and look up any good travel guide.Just have fun!!

Go via thailand and make sure you go here
www.tigertemple.co.uk look it up so you recognise the tigers.
In Bangkok always insist on metres in taxs and get them away from hotels and toruist areas and see if subway/monorail is near.
Also loads of cheaper hotels and guersthouses then in travel agent... if you have time dont book more then few days ahead.
NAD STICK TO OFFICIAL VIP BUSSES OR TRAINS FROM OFFICIAL STATION DO NOT BOOK THEM VIA TAT (THAI TRAVEL AGENTS) OR YOU GET RIPPED OFF WITH REAL SHITY SERVICE POSS NICKED STUFF. THE OFFICAL ONES ARE GREAT.
OH AND BUY LOTS OF THAI TRAVEL SICKNESS PILLS there are great and learn to scuba dive and get advnacned cert as most dives are to 30m (2 days extra) in Koh Toh.
Oh and avoid ping pong shows... They are like clip joints in Soho. ie go in, girl sits next to yoy, you get drink think crap go to leave then bouncers locked door and demand lots of money... If ytou want to check out the gogo bars fine... you only get hastled to sit down and get a first drink at regular prices... bit anoying but safe.
In NZ Christchurch would be best for a long stay with beachs, snow slopes, clubs and flat.
Wellington is hilly and windy
If in Auckland stay at XCity Garden Lodge and by food at the chinese supermarket between cgl hill and town on main curved road near car park... lot cheaper.
DONT GO AND STAY IN KINGS CROSS SYDNEY... YOU ONLY SEE THE SAME BRIT BP WHO ONLY GO TO LOCAL PUBS BACK HOME AND DO THE SAME THERE IN CRAP RED LIGHT DISTRICT.
its like a trap... avoid.
look into Andos Outback Tour fo a real aussie exp up to Byron Bay. Avoid the backpacker packages of activities (often cheaper as you go along). Also if female may win boat crusies in whitsundays (think wet t shirt type stuff in Magnums bar in Airlie beach) budget for around $400 for whitsunday... cheaper are crap booze cruioses, more expensive oldies wanting pampering... 400 gets you decent and go for the Avatar.
If going via Oz exp dont be late coach dont wait but DEFF GO ON THE CHOPPER RIDE IN DINGO AS ITS LIKE LOW LEVEL ACROBATICS AND YOU CANT DO THAT ANYWHERE.
In NZ get chopper ride from whatkatane (pron fakatane) to White Island Live volcano (as if spewing gas) (lot cheaper then from Rotarua. Learn haka in Rotarua. Do Skydive (mega cheap) and Tanganero crossing in Taupo.
Leave extra days incase of whether.
Waitomo caves do the Lost world with 100m absail in.
www.bugaustralia.com
www.bugpacific.com
for hostels... best reviews.
Right now...
GET THIS EXPERIENCE FOR JOBS...
Any Building site skills like hoist... DEFF Forklift licence (not bank money for taking tests in aus for this)
Waiter, silverservice, barman, housekeeping in 5 star hotel 9and get quick iw 1/2hfor small 1/h big room.
PCV licence could be good say for oz exp coach driver job.
It nursing and engineering help in big cities but wont always be in big cities...
Girlie jobs ie pole dancing common as well.
remebr when in aus not in uk...
Dont crawl under building in sydney due to spiders. Dont go near open water up north as crocs can bee 2 feet from you and you wont see all 5 meters of them
Get a camelpack (ie water backpack.
Light, fast charging battery charger.
Goretex jacket (thin one... you have to carry thye thing in hot wethr remember)
