shouldn't that be a sign right there and then that 'hey, wait a minute, I didn't come from a man's rib'

according to the creation story, God is male, created a male in his image, and to keep the male in God's image occupied and happy, he made a woman out of the man's rib to make sure the man in God's image wouldn't be lonely. It's portraying women to be after-thoughts, toys if will, to keep the real deal, man, in check

Yeah, I'm so beaten down, that's why my husband does almost anything to keep me happy, that's why I make most of the rules, and spend the money in my house. That's why most dicisions are made by me, with only a little imput from my husband. That's why women were picked to have the babies, and we are the nurturers.

That would explain why me and my husband are equals, why the rib is a symbol for unity, oneness. Yeah.. I'm the victim. I have to follow everything he says, everything he thinks I should be doing. It's all him.

I'm sorry, but you really need a reality check. If it wasn't for us women, you wouldn't be here!!! We are the ones who bring children into the world. You help make them, but then the woman takes over and you are out on the sidelines.

The Apostle Paul taught that “neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 11:11).

God called Eve a Helpmate for Adam, does that mean slave? Does that mean less then him? No it means equal to.

Maybe you need to look at it from a different view. Apparently, you don't have all the answers.

The Bible story was written by human being. The impress cannot thing outside of human mind and regional culture. If you look into all religious in the world are story of human being or god did something simulars to human. All the religious are teaching people to be happier and more calm. Do you agree?

There are 2 ways I could answer this...

Smart-a--
I heard someone say once that every artist creates a "rough draft" before he creates the "final masterpiece".....

Thought-out
I've heard that many references to body parts in the Old Testament were figurative. In this particular instance, with God creating Eve "from Adam's rib" was symbolic of how He wanted their relationship to be-
Eve was not made from a bone in Adams skull- she was not to rule over him...
Neither was she made from a bone in his foot- he was not to walk on her and treat her like so much dirt, as property,or as a slave.
She was made from his rib- under his arm, to be protected... by his side to be a friend and partner... and near his heart to always be loved...

I'm married- recently celebrated my 7th anniversary.... My parents have been married for over 30 years.... All the successful marriages I've seen (including these two) are built more around the second explanation.

This is one of the big reasons I left Christianity. I could never figure out why, if woman was created from man's rib, so many man are so confused by our reproductive systems. Seriously. My boyfriend is 34 years old an literally understands nothing about my plumbing and how it works. You would think, if we truly were created FROM man, that men would have an innate understanding of how our reproductive system works.

In addition, if man was created first and woman created from man, why are WOMEN the ones who carry the offspring? Isn't that kind of backward? Or hadn't God thought that far ahead?

Yes, but as time passed, each creation that he called into being was of an increasingly and progressively higher life form. He made man first -- a higher life form that the birds and animals and fishes of the sea. Then he made woman -- the crowning glory of all his creation. She is indeed a higher life form than that from which she came! Check out the order of his creation in Genesis!

the rib was taken from the man's side, not his foot. women are designed to come alongside the man & help him fulfill his destiny & purpose. she, in turn, benefits as he lives up to his potential. Christ commands man to love his wife as Christ loves the church. Christ gave all He had so that man could know God. If a man is living as Christ lived, a woman will gladly follow him to the ends of the earth. But like anything else, you have many men & women who distort this message for their own purposes & end up living sinfully & selfishly. Look at truly successful men. Next to them, you will see the wives that helped them achieve that success.

To Muhammad above:
Eve is not held responsible for sin entering the world, Adam is. Eve was deceived by the serpent, Adam was not. He had the choice to go to the Father with her sin but He choose instead to participate. The Bible says through one man sin entered the world. That man is Adam.

yes, men did use and abuse woman since the beginning of time and still do so in all religions and most cultures. They justify their doing, by wrong interpretation of the scriptures.

Being both together created in the very Image of God, man and woman Are superior to animals.
Male and female Are given authority to rule over God’s physical creation. This affirms that women Are Co-rulers with men.
Woman originated from man, in Order for her to be compatible with him and a comparable helper, indicating that they both have the Same essence and value.
Male and female unite to become one flesh, demonstrating that the two need each other in Order to complete each other.
Because of this interdependency and unity, the husband is told to treat his spouse As his own Body.
As a result of this essential equality and unity, the woman has the Same rights over her spouse’s Body that her husband has over her’s.

But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ," (1 Cor. 11:3).

In the Jewish and Christian culture when the Bible was written, there was a concept now called "Federal Headship." This means that the male is the one who represents his descendents.

Likewise we see the concept of Federal Headship in the fall. It was Eve who first sinned. But sin entered the world through Adam, not through Eve. Romans 5:12 says, "Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned." This is because Adam represented humanity and creation. When Adam fell, we fell. This is why it says, "...in Adam all die,"

this brings us to the woman. Again notice that it says in Gen. 2:24, "For this cause a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and they shall become one flesh." When a man and woman get married, they become on flesh. There is a unity between them. But, it is the man who is the head of the family which is why it says that the man is the head of the woman.
Some may think that this was a cultural notion that snuck into the Bible. But Paul makes it clear that the headship is related to the created order:

"For man does not originate from woman, but woman from man; 9 for indeed man was not created for the woman’s sake, but woman for the man’s sake. 10 Therefore the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels," (1 Cor. 11:8-10).

It was because Eve listened to the devil that the issue of order and hierarchy in the marriage relationship has had to be raised and explained.

“I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth. In pain you shall bring forth children; yet your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you,” (Gen. 3:16).

This headship is not about having the upper hand nor is it to mean that a woman has no rights or is a second class citizen. On the contrary, God tells the husband some very seroius commands:

"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her; 26 that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she should be holy and blameless," (Eph. 5:25-27).

the headship issue is an issue of order, not of who is better or more important. The husband is the head of the wife in the family and he has the responsibility of guiding his family to a closer relationship with the Lord. God will require it of him on the day when all our deeds are judged by God.

Heck if you want an even better example read this;

"Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church" (1 Corinthians 14:34-35)

Oh and here is another one that shows just how tolerant the chrisitan cult is towards women;

"And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her" (Ecclesiastes 7:26)

And those are just two of many.
I could go on and on...

so why would you focus on one passage when there are so many the glorify us.

My husband is head of my household because I feel it is right he knows it is a choice I made and we have seen many couples around us fall apart and eventually get a divorce.

I am no slave and neither were biblical women I suggest reading the parable of the Noble woman. before you proclaim yourself to be one.
