When I was pregnant, I could turn my belly button inside out. That made for easy cleaning. LOL

If you've got stray lint in there, grab a pair of tweezers and pull it out. Then, shove your finger in there with soap every time you bathe to make sure that you don't get more lint trapped in there.

Belly buttons are cool. So I'm assuming you have an innie then? LOL

Your suppose to wet Q-tips with soap(I use rubbing alcohol) and use it to clean in the crevaces of the innie belly button. The little black dot might be a mole. Its possible to have a mole inside your belly button.

just use a q-tip and some soap.

If the dot won't go away, it's most likely a freckle. They can pop up in the strangest places. Nothing to worry about.

You shouldn't really have to anything special to clean it, the black dot may be a mole - ask your dr next time you see him or her.

I was quite interested in your question - so I searched around and found this answer - well - it might not be the most helpful:

...are you sure that the hole you checked was the Belly Button... ...that is the one anatomically found about six inches below the sternum...???

I think it is important that you clean every part of your body. With regards to your navel, you might want to use caution with digging around in there. Personal I do not peer into it. I just use a wash cloth to clean it.
