Psychology plays into studying people because culture largely could apply pressure on what is and is not acceptable. If (using CSI as an example) the phrase what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas - Then murder without guilt would be acceptable there. Things like whether slavery or racism and how they differ historically in groups of people based on their understanding (sometimes because a word without the cultural context is overlaid on another place) like the bible referring to slavery changes the context totally. Biblical slavery from a Jewish perspective was to be a means of getting out of debt and to have the people freed at the end of six years so the seventh they began free.
