America is not solely responsible for global warming, but it has probably caused a significant amount of it. China and India are rapidly growing economies and would certainly not respond favourably to a demand to curb their energy useage. America basically buries it's head in the sand and hopes everything will either work out or go away. This makes nonsense of the UK's pitiful taxation rises to combat global warming.
Firstly, our contibution to global warming is so small that even if we shut down the entire country it wouldn't change things.
Secondly, what difference will more more money in the treasury make? Is Gordon Brown going to ask God if he can please buy a new planet?
Demanding we stop using fossil fuels won't change things anyway, it's all gone past the point of no return. Our efforts should be aimed at finding ways to survive and live with a warmer planet, not trying to prevent it.

Well since Florida in in America, why would the other countries mind? Except Holland would flood too.
Never the less, global warming is the whole world's fault. Even if the USA and China and India completely stopped burning any coal oil or gas, the continued contributions by Europe and other countries would still cause global warming, just a little more slowly. The ENTIRE world would have to COMPLETELY stop burning ANY coal, oil or gas, and even then there would be some warming from the CO2 already in the air.

What do u mean maybe pay tax to the backward countries?I don't think there is global warming. U first started with we use the most energy far beyond what we should . What difference does it make the earth recycles it air with plants . and recycles our fossil fuels . It is there to be used. The plants are doing a great job without all this hype. Where do u think our original fossil fuels came from. Before u turn the world upside down learn what has worked.

I think it's everyone's responsibility!! And yes we should demand America do something to curb their emissions, along with every other country in the civilised world too...And we should demand an all out ban on nuclear fuels before we open a whole other can of worms that we can't handle or clean up or undo when something disastrous happens...

Although America holds the trophy for doing the worst damage, you could not claim that they are singly responsible for the effects of global warming.
The only people who are not responsible for global warming are those who take extreme measures to avoid it.
Do you drive a car? You're responsible.
Do you fly a plane to go on holiday/vacation? You're responsible.
Do you use electrical appliances in your home? You're responsible.
Everybody is responsible. Except, perhaps, a homeless guy who lives in a cave in central india... he is possibly within sin in the crime of adding to the world global warming crisis. Give that man a medal.

To the extent that global warming is man made, we share in the cause with everyone else who burns fossil fuels. But, before you say that we are to blame, please compare our energy efficiency with the rest of the world. We do in fact use more energy than any single country, but we also produce more, and this is where that energy is going. Plot energy use vs. GDP and you will see that we are not that bad, and that many other countries are much worse.

America, yes. I think so. Becuase global warming is causing this odd weather only mostly here. I mean, it was supposed to snow moths ago and the sun is shining like crazy here. But whenever i ask people who are on the other side of the world they say "Brrr. It's cold! But not as much as last time". That means they are getting the effect too. Just not as much. I live in Virginia and it doesn't even feel a teeny bit cold!

Florida disappearing in one reason to continue burning fossil fuels. Most of it is a whole bunch of useless swamp, and the inhabitants would probably float because they are so fat (and therefore buoyant).
Carry on the good work, USA.
