Sever's disease, or calcaneal apophysitis, is the most frequent cause of heel pain in children between the ages of 8 and 13 and is due to an inflammation of growing plates, the calcaneus in the back of the foot due to the rapid growth of bone when compared to the calceneal tendon (otherwise known as the Achilles tendon).

Symptoms

* Complaints of pain or tenderness in the heel (or heels)
* Discomfort upon awaking, or when heel is squeezed
* Limping
* More severe pain after walking and more difficulty walking
* Pain during running or playing sports

Sever’s disease is directly related to overuse of the bone and tendons in the heel. This can come from playing sports (i.e. football, basketball, lacrosse) or anything that involves lots of heel movements. Too much weight bearing down on the heel can also cause it as can excessive traction since the bones and tendons are still developing.

Treatment may consist of one or more of the following:

* Stopping sports or other activities that aggravate the condition.
* Elevating the heel
* Stretching hamstring and calf muscles daily
* In some cases, casting may be necessary
* Using R.I.C.E. (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation)
* stretching exercises

Sever’s disease is self-recovering, meaning that it will go away on its own when it is used less or when the bone is through growing. The condition is not expected to create any long-term disability, and expected to subside in 4-6 weeks.

See your health care provider as soon as possible (podiatrist), for consultation. A burning sensation on the soles of your feet can arise from any number of causes, from ill-fitting shoes to diabetes. The most serious cause is peripheral neuropathy--damage to the leg nerves--often from diabetes or alcoholism and less commonly from vitamin deficiencies or lead poisoning. A rare disorder called erythromelalgia increases blood flow to the hands and feet and can also produce a searing sensation. Some people experience fiery feet because they're sensitive to a chemical in the lining of their shoes (particularly some types of athletic shoes). Try changing your foot gear to see if the problem subsides. If not, see your doctor to rule out medical causes. Signs and symptoms of arthritis include: Early morning stiffness of the foot or ankle Swelling in one or more joints Recurring pain or tenderness in any joint Redness or heat in a joint of the foot Limited movement of any joint Skin changes, including rashes and growths on the foot or ankle Arthritis is a disease characterized by the inflammation of the cartilage and lining of the body's joints. Inflammation causes redness, warmth, pain and swelling. There are two main types of arthritis which effect the foot, Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Osteoarthritis of the foot primarily affects the joint at the base of the big toe. Over time, the toe may become bent and develop into a painful bunion. The joint also may become stiff, making the joint rigid and walking difficult. Rheumatoid Arthritis is a systemic disease that attacks multiple joints throughout the body. About 90% of the people with Rheumatoid Arthritis eventually develop symptoms related to the foot or ankle. Sometimes, arthritis symptoms in the foot are the first indication that you have Rheumatoid Arthritis. See your Rheumatologist for a proper diagnosis and treatment. I hope this helps you. And good luck.

I had that disease when I was in the 8th grade. It usually starts from the calcaneus bone of your foot (the large heel bone) and MAY spread towards the knees. You get a sharp pain in your heel when you walk. The name sears sounds somewhat familiar, but I think its also called cleavers diseaes. I tried looking for more infomation about it, but I cant find anythin.
