i just got my license in august and i had my first car accident in september..even so the accident made me 20x a better driver than when i first started..just make sure you go at a speed you are comfortable with, and don't let other people intimidate you!!!! people on the road are generally impatient (everyone is in a rush) and they can not tolerate new drivers. you will inevitably make mistakes but don't sweat it. just keep a good amount of space in between you and the car in front of you when driving on a main road and don't worry what the person behind you is doing. only GLANCE in your mirrors i know i have a habit of looking in my rear view mirror rather than the road in front of me haha...and don't be nervous because the more you do it the faster it becomes like second nature. always make sure that before you switch lanes you look in your mirrors AND turn your head quickly just to make sure. one last thing, don't panic if you miss the street you were supposed to turn down or feel like you can't switch lanes you can always drive past it and turn around. hope i helped!

Don't talk on a cell phone while driving. Always be aware of what is going on around you. Be a defensive driver; meaning to watch out for other cars doing stupid things. There are a lot of idiots with a license to drive so be careful.

All these answers are good advice, but also, don't be scared behind the wheel. It is important to be comfortable but this comes with experience also.
I see more bad drivers who are just completely awful because they are terrified of driving and afraid to get into an accident. Well then they do stupid stuff like slam on their brakes when they don't need to and get into accidents...

Obey the laws, be aware of the drivers around you, and keep a safe distance from the car in front of you.

Pay attention to the road and the instrument panel, not the stereo and passengers. Statistics are irrefutable and the more distractions you have in your car, the greater the likelihood you will be involved in a mishap.
Good luck and be careful out there!

My grandmother (born 1900) said that you should always be able to see the bottom of the rear tires of the car ahead of you when you stop behind them.
That way, if they stall, or can't go because of something ahead of them, you can always pull around them.
I've always done this, and it has been very useful many times because there WERE times when the guy ahead of me couldn't go, but I could!

Never follow to close to a semi and don't stay along the side of a semi either if you don't have too. 80,000 pounds is nothing to mess with. Also pay attention to your surroundings of what is a head of you

Don't drive your friends anywhere. Remember that you will KILL someone if you have even one sip of alcohol and get behind the wheel. DO NOT TALK ON YOUR GODDAM CELL PHONE.
