Perhaps there's something inspiring about the way it's read--the passion of the reciter. Remember the scene from _The Shawshank Redemption_ in which the prisoners all stopped in their tracks to listen when Andy played the duet, "Che soave zeffiretto," from _The Marriage of Figaro_ over the loudspeakers? Red (played by Morgan Freeman), in his voice-over narration, commented that he didn't know what the two women were singing about and didn't need to. There was something deeply touching and heart-wrenching just in the sounds of their voices paired with the sublime music that stirred the emotions of everyone that heard it.

I am a practicing buddhist raised in the States as a Christian and living in the middle east. I can see how people would find the recitation emotional. It really is quite beautiful and the devotion and emotion that goes into the "singing" of the holy Qur'an really is moving. If you speak Arabic than the poetry of it is also can evoke deep emotions. Regardless of your religious beliefs, it is still some of the worlds greatest poetry...

my friend you are recognising Truth. Here is what the Quran says:

[5:83]: When they hear what was revealed to the messenger, you see their eyes flooding with tears as they recognize the truth therein, and they say, "Our Lord, we have believed, so count us among the witnesses.

That is a beautiful experience!!!

Why it makes you cry- because there is something in the text that is in agreement with your truth (soul) and it does not matter if one cries to words from anything (Bible or whatever)

There is something in there that your soul remembers and my suggestion is something within resides with your soul and follow your heart!!

Namaste
