I guess I am a bit anti-illegal immigration. Most of it is inspired by my former neighbors that were illegal. they severely used up my friendliness. They "borrowed" 100 dollars from me, and then told me two weeks later that they weren't going to pay me back. From that point on, it was all down hill for me. I know there are some good illegal aliens, and I hate to let one experience bias me.

So resolution through compromise seems to be the best approach to the issue.

Consider the money aspect:

By granting amnesty to 12 million illegal immigrants, with the average cost of a green card ending up around 1500 dollars, we are losing a boat load of money...(about 180 billion dollars).

So what if there was another option? Green cards are basically work permits. Let's add another level to "work permits", and call it temporary work permits. Any illegal alien can purchase a temporary work permit for the cost of 100 dollars. The work permit would be valid for 1 year. This would mean a yearly gain of 12 Billion dollars. The catch would be two fold:

1) Children of illegal immigrants, whether born in the US or Mexico, would also require the yearly 100 dollar temporary permit.

2) Illegal aliens would be required to pay taxes and all ensuing bills without access to free special services, like hospital, welfare, schooling for their children...

BUT they would be eligible for insurance through the companies that employ them.

After five years of good behavior through the temporary work permit system, aliens would be allowed to buy a Green Card at 500 dollars, no strings, or they can continue on through the temporary system until they want to go home.

In essence, the average person pays 4-5 thousand dollars a year in taxes. By bringing all of the illegal aliens to a temporary legal status, we are gaining that tax money, making the illegals legal AND traceable, and creating reasons for them to avoid the illegalities of drugs, smuggling...

There are pitfalls in this methodology, but with our deficit, any money we can get could be a good thing...

Avoid education, ethics classes, reading, farms that grow produce, ranches that hire cheap labor, the crowd outside of Home Depot waiting for a concerned citizen to drive up and take them to work, you know, 4.00 a day and all the water you can drink to cut the poor citizens lawn.
