True; to think is to hurt. People want the easy life, maximum escapist rewards for the least brain usage. Simple selfish promises however unlikely , are believed, dreams are safe, faith, like peace and plenty, is always in the future. A life full of safe invisible friends, is often preferred to the reality of the real world.

The original quote is, "Where ignorance is bliss it is folly to be wise".
Nobody ever (famously) said ignorance is bliss.
Spiritual bliss is transcendent, not ignorant - so it really only works for babies.

Sure it is...Remember back when you were 5 years old, no bills, no knowledge of war, and politics, and taxes, and what it means to make a living, or get good grades, or how to keep a marriage together, or if you'll have enough gas in your car to get to work, etc etc etc...If only I could be 5 years old again..

It can be.

But I assume you are speaking of religions which makes me wonder which group you think is ignorant. Even those who know about a religion may not believe in it. That's not ignorance but free choice.

Sure. Lots of people prefer their answers to life, politics, religion, etc. handed to them in the simplest terms, in black and white, either-or choices.

Having to use one's brain and admit that there may be more than one or two options to any situation is just plain retarded.

As they say, no brains - no headaches.

It sure seems that way sometime, I think we should have a worldwide competion to find the happiest person on the planet, and then get them to tell us how they do it.
