usually a red line can indicate infection or allergic reaction. you should keep using the cleaner you got with the piercing or alcohol. if it doesn't get better you should have it checked and try changing metals.

I would be concerned about the red line. It sounds like you do have an infection. I would recommend that you buy some sea salt and soak some cotton balls in a mixture of warm water and sea salt, try a small amount of bacitracin two times a day for a week and also call your doctor's office. If you had your ear pierced by a professional body piercer you can also go see them again and show them the piercing. You don't want to end up with a keloid (a hard piece of scar tissue that forms a small mass)...

I've had my ears pierced since I was 12 years old. When I first got them pierced, they were a little irritating. I had the same symptoms as you. If you have just gotten them pierced then this is normal. You should probably get a bottle of ear care antiseptic. You can probably find those in a "Claire's" store or something. That helps A LOT! Whatever you do though, DO NOT USE rubbing alcohol. It makes it worse and it stings. The ear care does not sting. If it gets any worse, go see a doctor and he can prescribe a special ear care for you. I hope everything works out.

I am curious as to what you mean by "red line". If it is what I think it is, you should be checked for an infection that has gone into your blood stream. I really would not delay in having this looked at either. I think, that if the infection is already in the blood stream, that just applying alcohol with a cotton ball to the affected area won't help the blood stream, though it will help the surrounding tissue. I would be concerned if I were you. Did you have the piercings professionally done? If so, call them first and see what they have to say. If not, I would contact a Dr. Immediately. Good Luck

If you have just recently got your ears pierced, then don't worry, they are just inflamed from the piercing. This is normal to happen right after you get pierced. It will subside in a few weeks. If the problem persists, and you get a crusty pus on your ear lobes, then you have an infection. Use rubbing alcohol on your ears, or polysporin, and this should clear the infection up.

put rubbing alcohol on it and rotate the earring or bellyring or whatever at least twice a day. it does take some time for it to heal. i had my upper ear pierced, and 6 months later, it was still red and raw. i finally took it out and let the hole grow up.

also, you might need to change out the earring. if it is cheap metal then that is what could be aggrevating the hole. try real gold or sterling silver. be careful putting the new earring back in though, it might be tricky if it infected.

Nothing is wrong! Your ear is still trying to get used to the piercing, and it will take a while. It's supposed to do that for a few weeks. Just leave in the earring, and nothing bad will happen. the pink color will go away, and the swelling will go down. Just don't try to mess with it.

well if you just got it peirced of course it'll hurt and maybe a little swollen. you can tell if its infected if it has what you said it doesn't, if it does start getting pus and crust and all that nasty stuff see a doctor!

but this does sound like me when i got my ears pierced in 2nd grade. it was a little swollen and hurt a little but this only because i just got them pierced

one question: did you peirce it or did a professional? because if you pierced it yourself than you probably didn't peirce it with something sterile. if a professional pierced it, than you'll probably be fine.

and always use ear care or whatever cleaner you have

Apply a strong disinfectant and heat. Betadine is a good disinfectant. If that does not work and the red line gets more pronounced after two days go to emergency room. YOu may need IV antibiotics. Don't delay. This could be serious.

Take Salt and Mix it with luke warm water. After that, try rinsing ur ear with it, it acts as a disinfectant and will heal it up. I had the same problem 2.
