My grandmother is 76 years old, and unless I beg to take her shopping or drive her to the doctor's, she will insist on taking the bus and then complain about it endlessly. I do not want to make her take two buses to go to the doctor's (for a check-up, mind you. She's not ill) but when I offer, she'll look miserable and then say no, she'd rather take the bus. "Really, it's only two buses dear. It's good for my poor old bones."

I HATE when people hint that they want something and then refuse my help when I offer. I don't want her to think that hinting at me will always work, and I've mentioned this to her before and she won't change. But she is getting old. What should I do?

Aww hon, you've missed the point here! Grandma LIKES taking the bus, she finds it interesting and she gets something to talk about "endlessly". You say it's complaining, for her, it's interesting.

Don't forget however, she also likes knowing that you want to help her, that makes her happy. So keep on begging, just get a better attitude about it! The whole thing makes Grandma happy, so do it with love and know you are making her "poor old bones" feel better by being the good granddaughter you are :)

Maybe she wants your help, but she feels bad .
So just offer, but if she continues to insist then let her have her way .
