Buddhism as a modern world religion is viewed as separate from Hinduism, and certainly not as a branch of it, although it originated out of a Hindu world-view.
Buddhism as a religion evolved based on the teachings of the historical Buddha. It is distinct from, but arose within the cultural and spiritual context of, Hinduism. The Buddha was born into a Hindu family, and practised Hindu methods for enlightenment for several years, before following what he termed the 'middle way', between the extremes of indulgence and asceticism. But ultimately the philosophy he espoused was different in critical areas to Hinduism, e.g. he rejected the notion of a permanent soul, and the Hindu caste system.

The Buddha practiced asceticism for it slow, yet got here across that this does not bring about enlightenment. So even if that's sturdy to prepare power of strategies and reticence, intense asceticism as modern-day in Hinduism isn't seen clever. perspectives on karma, samsara and enlightenment are comparable in the two religions, even if there are some variations in interpretation. to illustrate, a Hindu of a intense caste does not anticipate to be reborn as an animal or perhaps worse, until (s)he behaves relatively undesirable, yet in Buddhism a rebirth into an animal state is seen conceivable with particularly ordinary destructive habit. Hinduism does not have priests, Buddhism does have monk and nun ordinations. Buddhism places plenty emphasis on meditation and non-attachment. in accordance to Hindus, we've a undeniable type of lives to stay earlier we are able to be enlightened, in accordance to Buddhism, enlightenment can purely be finished after particularly lots of attempt; without attempt, enlightenment could never come.

They are two very different religions. If Buddhism was going to be defined as an offshoot of Hinduism, then Christianity would have to be an offshoot of Judaism.

Everything is a branch on other thoughts/effects, this is the nature of cause and effect. Should we think of a soda can as distinct from a star or a branch from it?

Buddhism began as a heresy within Hinduism....or is it the other way around? Christianity was once a Jewish sect.
