in any certain ways.If it was a question.about something specific how do you go about listening for the answer.is it a quiet voice within you?just how does one ask and listen and recieve the answer? Thank You.
As for the people who dont beleive that this is a real question and desearves a real answer.and just wont to say heh. No spirit exists. why do you not answer a question you know about somewhere else.?all this attacking of spiritual questions on a spiirtual place here on yahoo is very inapropriate.

Hello and Blessings to you my friend.

I have often asked and sought out the guidance and advice of the Holy Spirit/Holy Ghost/Spirit of God.

During the initial phases I would seek signs of that voice or confirmation that I had made a connection.

I realized quickly that those signs were not to come. That it was a matter of faith above all else. That in order to hear the voice of the unseen I had to first believe in it. That I had to tune my inner ear and mind to listening.

It is a matter of believe the first thought that comes to you, that inner quiet voice of reason and inner peace that speaks softly, ignoring the noise that tends to interfere like chatter in our minds.

Meditation helps with this as it helps you learn to quiet down the internal dialogue that we all suffer from.

Ask your question and accept the answer that comes without doubt. It's not your imagination. Your imagination is a tool that is used by the Holy Spirit to speak with you.

One must first understand the levels of our minds.

The conscience is the mind that we deal with day in day out, it allows us to drive, to read, to type etc..

The unconscience or super conscience is that part of our minds that is in touch with the spiritual mysteries of the world.

There is a filter between the conscience and the unconscience.

Without it we would know all things.

In learning to hear that voice and connect to the Divine Spirit we must learn to first quiet the noise that our minds are making.\

Then we focus on the channel, like a radio of the Divine, tuning it, learning to focus on it and everyday that we do it becomes clearer and clearer until WE KNOW that it is the Divine that we hear.

There is always the danger of feeling it is the Divine Spirit when in fact it is just our own egos speaking.

There a number of examples I can give you but won't get it that right now.

I will say this. The Divine Spirit of God does not want revenge, does not become angry when others offend us, does not cause us harm, does not make us suffer for the sake of making us suffer, does not regret, does not doubt.

It is Love, Hope, Faith, Encouragement, Wisdome, Understanding, Fullfilling and many other things that you will understand in time.

For the sake of being brief i will end here with this quote that describes what I mean:

12For now we are looking in a mirror that gives only a dim (blurred) reflection [of reality as in a riddle or enigma], but then [when perfection comes] we shall see in reality and face to face! Now I know in part (imperfectly), but then I shall know and understand fully and clearly, even in the same manner as I have been fully and clearly known and understood by God].

Yes. I always do it before I preach a sermon, of which I've done two in my local church and a couple in retirement homes. I just prayed inside that God would lead me and give me the words to say. I ended up not following a word of the script I prepared, I spoke entirely from the Spirit, and when I watched the tape of my first sermon I was amazed at the things I was saying that I did not plan at all; the Spirit was totally moving my lips.

'You are accepted.' (Sermon by Paul Tillich).

We cannot transform our lives, unless we allow them to be transformed by that stroke of grace. It happens; or it does not happen. And certainly it does not happen if we try to force it upon ourselves, just as it shall not happen so long as we think, in our self-complacency, that we have no need of it. Grace strikes us when we are in great pain and restlessness. It strikes us when we walk through the dark valley of a meaningless and empty life. It strikes us when we feel that our separation is deeper than usual, because we have violated another life, a life which we loved, or from which we were estranged. It strikes us when our disgust for our own being, our indifference, our weakness, our hostility, and our lack of direction and composure have become intolerable to us. It strikes us when, year after year, the longed-for perfection of life does not appear, when the old compulsions reign within us as they have for decades, when despair destroys all joy and courage. Sometimes at that moment a wave of light breaks into our darkness, and it is as though a voice were saying: "You are accepted. You are accepted, accepted by that which is greater than you, and the name of which you do not know. Do not ask for the name now; perhaps you will find it later. Do not try to do anything now; perhaps later you will do much. Do not seek for anything; do not perform anything; do not intend anything. Simply accept the fact that you are accepted!" If that happens to us, we experience grace After such an experience we may not be better than before, and we may not believe more than before. But everything is transformed. In that moment, grace conquers sin, and reconciliation bridges the gulf of estrangement. And nothing is demanded of this experience, no religious or moral or intellectual presupposition, nothing but acceptance.

The Spirit brings answers in a still, small voice but also lines up with the Word of God. Satan has the ability to put thoughts in our heads that don't line up with the Word--so we need to be cautious and make sure the anwers are according to God's Word for our lives.

Jesus said that whatever we ask in His Name, He will do. When I ask for the Holy Spirit's guidance, I refer to the scripture in John 10 where Jesus says that sheep will not follow the voice of a stranger & He says "My sheep know my voice"< I confess this as part of my prayer & thank God for the answer. I listen for the still, small voice that speaks quietly in my spirit, like a thought, very gently. You have to receive the answer by faith & God will speak to you. It takes a bit of experience to learn to recognize His voice. Keep praying & keep believing. Hope this helps.
