The poster quoting some source that says 2 to 5 days, well, that sounds much too short. I've kept wine corked in the refrigerator for at least two weeks and never had a problem with it going bad. If you want to drink it at room temperature, just take it out of the refrigerator about a half hour before you plan to drink it.

As a couple others said, 2-3 days is generally the rule and safety is not a concern but taste is. If this is a cheaper bottle of wine - say less than $20 - it usually will only last a day after it's opened. If it's a more expensive wine or is meant to be aged, you will often find it to be better the next day than when you opened it and to last a good 3 days. After that, it usually starts getting vinegary though. If you ever need help finishing a bottle, just let me know! :)

How Long Can I Store Red Wine?

Q: How long is a red wine good for once it is opened, even if it is corked? And I hear refrigerating a red will ruin it. True?

A: : Refrigerating wine doesn't ruin it. In fact, it slows down the spoilage. As to how long you can keep it under refrigeration, I'd say two to five days, depending on the wine. Wines in gallon jugs can last longer. However, I've noticed that red wines, especially the better wines, are never as good after they have been kept in the refrigerator, even when brought to room temperature, which you should do before drinking. If the remainder of a newly opened bottle of wine will be consumed entirely the following day, I'd recommend keeping it at room temperature, preferably in the coolest area. Since air is the enemy of wine, one tip for storage of leftover wine is to pour the contents of a full bottle (750ml) into an empty half bottle (375ml). This reduces the amount of air that comes in contact with the wine in the bottle.

Boy, this quesion comes up a lot. If by "go bad" you mean turn to vinegar, it can take years. If you mean when does the flavor start to decline, that can happen in a day or two, depending on the wine. Keep it corked, store it out of direct light, and you might squeeze a few more days out of it. Never store it in the refrigerator- the cold will ruin the flavor almost immediately. Salud!

Red wines are not supposed to be refrigerated or served chilled, they are supposed to be room temperature wines. As long as the wine is recorked well, it should last for about 2 weeks. The restaurant that I work at notes that wines are good for 14 days from the date of opening even though we go through them much quicker than that. Most restaurants say that their items "expire" much sooner than that actually do as well.

Some will go bad in a few hours, and others are good for days. Use a vacuum cork to extend the life, but refridgeration will not help as it is the oxidation from the air that does the harm.

If you keep it air tight and in the fridge, it could last up to a week. Wine is a drink that needs to be consumed after opened.
