Kids will tease for any reason.
If he eats, plays, learns, sleeps, grows, and is generally happy and comfortable in his life, don't worry about it. Everyone has different body types and forcing him to try to change his can make him obsess over it and be generally unhealthy. If HE is worried about it, you could take him to the doctor and ask for professional advice.

my oldest will be 8 in May

he's really really skinny too!

If your son is anything like mine, I don't think there's much you can do! Austin just will not gain extra weight! He's tall for his age too, so that doesn't help. Be glad that his metabolism is so high! Teach him healthy eating habits now, and he'll follow them throughout his life. If he's not underweight, I wouldn't worry about it. My 7 year old weighs 56 pounds and he's 52 inches tall. There's nothing I can do to "fatten" him up any. He's just a skinny little boy.

Honestly, the only thing I can say here is maybe he just has a high motabolism. My son is 7 and he is very skinny but they are young boys and if yours is anything like mine he is highly active. I think if he is not underweight then really there is nothing to worry about. Sorry I can't be of more help.

It could be the other way around, him being teased because he is chubby, think about it. I have a friend who said that her mother was in the same plight as you, she was very skinny as a child so her mother fed her on vitamins to put some meat on her bones. By the time she was fourteen see had a bit too much meat one bones. She was thinking about how she could take it off. So don't worry about it, once he is eating properly he is o.k. He may surprise you years to come.

Hey... I was very thin when I was a kid too and I am so glad that my parents didn't try and fatten me up. It has been really easy for me to maintain a good weight my whole life. Everyone gets teased when they are young about something, it teaches you how to deal with so that when you are an adult you don't take it too serious. Just tell him what my parents told me (that turned out to be 100% true) "Most of those other kids are going to be fat when they grow up."

you could try the pediasure shakes, they taste good, kids love them, and they have extra calories and nutrients that they need. If your son is very active, as most 8 year olds are this could be why he is skinny, he runs off all the excess calories. In this day and age, when the obesity rate in children is alarmingly increasing, I would be thankful if I didn't have to worry about that. As long as he is healthy and active, I wouldn't worry too much, or you could just let him eat all this junk food he wants, you know how kids love junk food.

If he is healthy and not overweight don't mess with it! Don't fix what is not broken! Have you talked to a Dr. about it? Has a Dr. told you he needs to gain weight? With all of the overweight kids out there consider yourself (and him) lucky!

Kids with tease each other over anything! If he gains weight they will tease him because he is chubby or find something else. Kids will always find something to tease each other about.
