What makes NASCAR racing at all interesting IS NOT THE ACTUAL RACING. The personalities and the rivalies and the histories is what makes is worthwhile. It's a product of merchandising, good marketing, and dramatic entertainment.
But one can hardly call NASCAR exciting otherwise. I mean its like watching rain drops race themselves across a window pane. BIG DEAL. There's little driving skill involved other than maintaining a line.
The real drivers test their skill on dificult circuits with turns and tight corners.
Juan Pablo Montoya, a former winner of the Indy500 and the old ChampCar road racig series, tried his luck in Formula 1. To his credit he won a few races, but has decided that he can't handle the pressures, on road and off, that an F1 driver is constantly put under, so he's decided to run circles and make name for himself in NASCAR, or so is the plan.
What this really means is that he and NASCAR wish to capture and market towards the latino population and broaded the fan base by introducing a Columbian driver. As said earlier, NASCAR is brilliant in this way, and will likely gro in fan numbers. BUT the actual racing is hardly worth watching other than to cheer on your favorite personality. There's little technical racing to appreciate.

A few questions, why are you all Non NASCAR people in their area, second of all it is a sport but I get tired of answering the same stupid pathetic question over and over again so I dont want to even bother answering that because it is, and then nothing on the highway is even close to what happens on the tracks, and I really doubt people are going 200 mph on an interstate in Chicago, especially if you are talking in the middle of rush hour, yeah right, go figure, get your facts straight cuz that would never be possible in Chicago, as their are far worse thinsg to happen.

I felt the same way, until I went to a race. I thought of it as a pack of cars going in a circle. Wonder what is going to happen next, maybe a left turn?
As with most sports, being in the stands is a lot better than watching it on the tube. At the race you can really tell the power that the cars have and you can see all the work that happens in the pits that you don't really see on tv. I love having a radio and being able to tune in to hear all of the drivers communicating with their team and when they get upset at other drivers for driving stupid.

The British and Germans have Volkswagen series on road courses where *any* VW vehicle can be raced, including minivans and delivery vans.
One VW race produces more and better action than an entire NASCRASH "season".

Go to a race, before you make an opinion about it! TV doesn't cover all that happens at a race, go to one, then talk to us about how "boring" or NOT BORING it was for you. I think you'll have a different opinion about it.

So, what's your beef with NASCAR? Cars on the freeway don't even come close to the speeds race cars are driving.

If all you know about NASCAR is channel surfing, don't talk about it. Educate yourself BEFORE you ask a question. There is more than you can even imagine going on that the tv doesn't show.
