If you are using Win9x/Me/XP users can use the "System Configuration Utility" (MSCONFIG) to identify startup programs. You start it by clicking Start then Run. The "Run" box will open up. Type msconfig.exe followed by the enter key.

You know if you want to speed up you should reduce memory usage. One way is reducing computer graphics such as effect ,graphics ,... .

You can do Start, then RUN, then type
msconfig
Then uncheck items in the Startup tab.

Also you can follow here:
Right lcick on "My Computer" on start menu.
A window will be opened called "System Properties".on "Advanced" tab click "Setting" button from "Performance" area.
then choose "Adjust for best performance" radio button.click ok and apply.

Also you can remove some application from start up that use memory a lot such as Security application(for example ZoneAlarm SecuritySuite).
If you are using security suite application NOT set it for run in start up.
