This forum has an abundant example of this. Have you noticed the amazing number of wise cracks in answer to serious questions dealing with Jesus? That is the world hating Jesus and by association hating us. It's interesting that this forum is the only one where this happens. Other forums, not dealing with the question of Jesus enjoy courteous questions and answers. But the World is bent on distorting and corrupting Jesus and anything about Him, therefore we get the foolishness that is plain, here.

Jesus did not mean we were from another planet. When he was reffering to the "world" in this context, the world means the people in the world. People only like those who are like them and those who have their same beliefs. Jesus knew that what he was preaching to the people went against what they "wanted" to believe, or how they wanted to live life. People don't like being told what to do, especially when it involves a little sacrifice. That is why Jesus said only a few would find the true path to everlasting life. Many people, especially the religious pharisees and priests, hated Christ because he reprimanded their way of teaching and the way they treated the people. And he proved them right when Caifas, one of the pharisees, was the first to move the masses to murder Christ.
In short, because TRUE Christains are different in the way they act and think to everyone one else who CLAIMS to follow Christ, these people will hate them, just as they hated Christ. But when your life depends on it, it pays to be different.

In the original Greek text, that particular form of the word "love" meant to have "common interest" with the world.

The common interest of our world depends a lot on the age of a person.

To a teenager ---- freedom from authority

To a young adult - Marriage, kids, and an SUV or minivan

To a middle age adult - Money, Money, Money

To a senior citizen - Health and eternal life.

(In the Bible days and in 1611 when the Bible was translated into English, the word "hate" meant to ignore or disagree with you. (Apathy but not anitpathy)

Jesus was speaking to His disciples. The disciples were not of this world, because they were receiving Spiritual insight, instead of looking at the world through the world's standards.

Jesus told them in the verse before this that the world hated Him. The reason the world hated Him was because He tells the Truth, and you know the expression "truth hurts"? Well, the world hated Him because he revealed truths to them -- of their sinfulness and need for repentance.

So, Jesus was telling the disciples the same thing. He was telling them that when they go out in the world and begin preaching the gospel, that they were going to rub alot of people wrong. And they did. And they died, all except one, who was sent to the island of Patmos for the rest of his life.

The same with you. If you are a disciple of Christ, you will rub people wrong. You will tell them things they don't want to hear. The world will hate you, too.

But, that's a mere price to pay for eternal life.

It is the same as when Jesus said, because the world hates Me, it will hate you.

That is an interesting thought about the carbon dioxide.
Since we breathe out carbon dioxide, maybe we should help the world out by not breathing.

The living green things love carbon dioxide and they emit oxygen.
Wow.
What a deal.
I wonder who designed it that way.

It means that the world loves you as long as you "go with the flow", or run with the pack, so to speak. So, as long as you go with popular opinion, the world will love you, but if you go against popular opinion, as Jesus did, the world will dis-own you.

Well, just look at what is being said on this website.
THe world does apparently hate Christians, so the
words of the Bible are true even to this day.

It shows some influences of Gnosticism. Note how the Jesus in John is completely different from the Jesus in Matthew, Mark and Luke. Almost incompatible.

He was telling us, the world (consciousness of mortal thought, human thought) hates truth, so as you surrender to divine love, human thought rejects you. We see that here with atheists, agnostics, and other groups that do not desire the truth.
