rumour has it theres lots of oil there, lose the ice and its easier to get so I wouldnt put it past them

All the nuclear weapons in the world could not melt the entire south polar ice cap. Anyway, it would probably cause a nuclear winter, which is basically an ice age. Not to mention a lot of radioactive fallout.
