Hi there, I currently live in Athens and work at the University. Athens is about an hour east of Atlanta, but moreso an hour and a half away with ATL traffic.

It's a small, well laid-out town though there isn't much to do here! Sure it's a college town and during football season there are games and traffic every weekend but other than that, not much is happening besides going to the movies, a bar (if that's your thing), or like me, heading out of town for other adventures!

Also, there is no real dating scene if you're over the age of thirty, so don't come here looking for date-potentials, especially if you are of another race and on a higher social and economic level. That's a bitter pill I've swallowed quickly! Good Luck!

It's about 60 miles NE of downtown Atlanta. Take either US 29 or US 78 to GA 316. It used to take me about 45 minutes to get from Stone Mtn. to Athens back in the mid-80's when 316 first opened up. Don't try taking I-85 or I-20--too easy to miss the cut-offs to Athens, which is too far from the Interstates anyway. (Gee, thanks, Dr. Aderhold.)

West of Atlanta on Hwy 78, I believe. Drunken small college town full of football players and hangers on that study mostly marketing. Maybe a philosopher or two. Not the place to find any rocket scientists.

I'm sure the people who live there know where it is. I hope that answers your question.
