My husband never did propose to me. One night he came over to my place and we were arguing about something (can't remember what), and he angrily, sarcastically yelled " well what the ***** did you want to do, get married?!?" to which I (just as sarcastically and angrily), replied "oh yeah sure, whatever". He then walked out of my apartment. The next day I asked him if he had been serious about what he said and he said " &$#@ I don't know", got mad and stormed off. The next day I asked him again if he had meant it and he said " &$#@ I don't know. I guess whatever". We got married a year later, although I never did receive an engagement ring or a wedding ring. Presently, after three years of marriage and four years after becoming engaged, I still havn't received an engagement ring or a wedding ring from him, even though he has a wedding ring!
So everyone, let's hear your bad engagement stories! It's always good to know that you're not alone in your harrowing experiences!!!

Okay - I think I can top that. I was pregnant, my parents were threatening to kick me out unless we agreed to get married, we wanted to wait. We were sitting on the porch and I was crying, he said "Fine, let;'s just get married then, who cares anyway." We had a 200 guest wedding with a full dinner/dance two weeks later - no jokes! 8 years, 3 kids later, I just got my wedding band for Christmas this year. Still waiting on the engagement band. In the meantime, he's had 5 wedding bands cause he either doesn't like them or he loses them.

My first husband proposed to me in the traditional "normal" way...it was actually pretty romantic - for HIM.

A week later he presented me with my engagement ring and then promptly took it back the next day because he didn't think I acted appreciative enough when I received it. He gave it back to me about a month later -- and I got pregnant the night of our engagement party!

We were married for 12 years, got divorced in 1996 and my kids (I have two now ages 20 and 23) have seen him approximately 12 times since 1996 and he lives less than a mile away.

If it looks like a duck...walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...it's probably a DUCK!

OK, I always thought mine was pretty bad, but it's NOTHING compared to yours!!! And I do like the idea of going out and getting yourself a wedding ring, he should've done it himself, but if he's anything like my hubby, that type of stuff totally intimidates him.
My hubby "proposed" as we were driving home one night. We were talking about something--can't remember what--and he said "So, when are we going to get your ring?" I sat there for a minute or two--because this WAS totally out of the blue--and asked him if he was asking me to marry him. He looked at me (still driving, mind you) and with a cocky grin asked "well, what do you think it was?" We went ring shopping the next day, and were married about 6 months later. That was 19 years ago tomorrow.
Oh man--I need to get an anniversary card for him today!!!! ;-)

I was really drunk, drugged and about 2 minutes away from being raped when I got proposed to. the guy living downstairs was a creepy freak and luckly my husband walked in (boyfriend at the time) and threatened to kill the guy. he was planning on proposing that night so he still idd, but its a night we never speak of again....TOP THAT!

All I can say is that you deserve SOOO much better than that. No one should be treated like that. I like the idea of spending his money to go and buy yourself a ring....

oh hun, that really sucks. i don't know anything about your marrage but i think your at least worth a proposal and a ring. that is the symbol of his love for you. he better really make up for it in other things. and why does he have a ring if you don't? that is kinda weird. you deserve better.

I'm sorry to hear your experience. Why won't he buy you a wedding set? You should just go out and buy yourself one, with his money!
