The term 'fractal map' seems to be used for several different things, but related by the fact they all use fractals.

1. Generating images of landscape, mountains, valleys, etc in video games and art. An advantage of fractal mps in video games is that you can generate an endless supply of realistic looking mountains and landscapes from a tiny amount of data, the parameters to be used in a mathematical formula. You don't need lots of storage space to store gigabytes of data describing all the north/south, east/west and height data for all the points.

2. Visualising data, such as financial or sales data.

3. Visualising various types of data in a spreadsheet, such as Excel.

4. Visualising sub-sea geological data.

etc

Usually fractal images are images expressed by a particular algorithm derived from Chaos Theory. Fractal maps seema bit of an anomaly in a phrase, and I would guess might be a contradiction in terms. However, maybe there is an algorithm that generates map in the way that chaos theory would work
