I have naturally curly hair, which I started straightening with a flat iron. I noticed that the ends were looking bad,so I went and had all the dead ends cut. That left me with about chin-length hair when straight. I want to wear it curly, but it is entirely to short. I kind of have a Shirley Temple thing going. I know that if I keep straightening, it's going to fry, but I can't wear it that short and curly out in public. What do I do?!

I have the same type of hair with the and the same experience. Firstly, If you went to someone that is good with curly they should have cut it in a way that you can wear it curly, You need to restore your hair, a good product is Emergency by Nexus. Use it at least once a week. Second, make sure you use a leave in conditioner every day. This will help weigh down the curls and help restore your hair. Thirdly, Aveda has a great product called Be Curly, which helps define curls and also weighs your hair down so it doesn't frizz out. Don't wash your hair everyday, and make sure you use a strong conditioner.

Have you thought of wrapping your hair up at night? It actually will keep your hair straight and you won't have to flatiron it the next day. Here's how you do it.
Get a brush or comb and starting at the base of your neck comb your hair in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction, keep going until you reach the crown of your head. All your hair should be swept up away from your face. If it doesn't want to stay that way you can use a couple of bobby pins to keep it up. (It is kind of like doing a cotton candy swirl around your head i.e. wrapping it). Then tie a scarf, preferably satin around your hair. Do this before you go to bed. Then when you wake up simply unwrap it and it should still be straight.
Also be sure to use a shower cap when showering. Use a really good one, preferably one that is lined so no moisture can get in at all. Or you can use 2 of the cheaper ones.

The best thing to do is call your hairstylist if you don't have a good one let me know and I can ref fer you to one.
All that needs to get done is they take perming lotion that they will choose that will not burn or damage your have and instead of doing a perm, they take your hair layer by layer and perming lotion and keep combing it through for the duration of the time that a perm should stay on. Depending on the strength that they use it will take the majority of the curl out, and they can use a treatment that will nourish your hair so that it stays healthy.
Also ask them for a treatment that you could use at home. just the treatment, and use it every second or third wash, massaging it in and leaving it in for at least 5 min, depending on the way your hair feels.

The same thing happened to me, except I change my hair color often. I have naturally wavy/curly hair. You can always find a way to make your hair look cute, even if it means not straigtening it and pushing some of it into small clips.
Use your flat iron very rarely, I know people who absolutly KILL their hair by using it everyday.
Or, if you have the money, you could get a hot-oil treatment for your hair.

Kenra, Oais, Graham Webb all make a thermal protective spray that protects hair when heat styling......they work great! You could also Use Paul Mitchell super skinny very lightly before you flatiron.... get something between your hair and the heat.
