I second the Canon A series recommendation.
The Fuji A500 does take pretty good pics, (even with the lag) but in my lab we have had 3 of 5 returned with the same focus error. It may be that I just got a bad shipment, but it also could be a quality issue with the A500.
I would say look at Olympus seriously, Canon and Nikon as well. And Kodak makes pretty good, affordable, decent digicams. Spend toward the top of your price range, and get a bigger memory card.
I would stay away from HP, Vivitar, Samsung, Casio, and any brand you've never heard of.
Have fun with your new camera!

My thought would be the Fugifilm FinePix A 500. 3X optical zoom and 5 megapixels. Very good on batteries. Only drawback I can see is 3 second delay between shots. About $125 at Best Buy, can be gotten at $110 + shipping from major camera store in NJ

Ten years, that is a puzzling one, and it does count number on how a lot you shoot. a pro who would shoot 5000 pictures each month in some godforsaken position will placed on out the mechanicals of a digital camera truly promptly, in lower than 3 years. If it truly is puzzling use that you're concern your digital camera to, then you honestly favor to get a tank of a digital camera Nikon D3/3S/3X and Canon 1DmkIV and 1DsMkIII stands out as the style of digital camera you want. you'll favor a climate sealed lens to bypass with it. Even then it truly is not any longer going to be indestructible. in case you're fairly keen to splash then a Leica M9 equipment can be an decision, the Leica is a more suitable spartan digital camera which skill a lot less to bypass incorrect. in case you're going to apply it in severe situations, then you honestly ought to seem at organic mechanical cameras, and capturing movie, per chance a Leica M3, which has no electronics to break. in case you're going to toddler your digital camera, and in trouble-free words take it out even as the solar is shining, and the elements is warmth then i'd imagine the present Canon 550D (or the different get entry to point SLR) and equipment lens would likely do the pastime. of direction it is going with out saying that between the 550D and the 1D there are a variety of of cameras that would face as a lot as various volume of abuse, so it fairly relies upon on the way you want to apply the digital camera.
