Why do people get runny noses?

The body reacts to infection in various ways. Sometimes it will make a thick mucous to protect itself and other times it will produce thin mucous to try and "wash" the area clean. Thats what a runny nose is, the body's way of trying to clear the germs, but it goes haywire and just gets us annoyed! lol;
