Volvo cars was founded in Sweden in 1927.

Currently Volvo Cars is owned by Ford Motor Company (Volvo cars are still made in Sweden and all over Europe)

Volvo trucking division is still owned by Volvo the Swedish company.

Volvo is and has always been obsessed with Safety and is a leader in that division of automotive technology.

In 1944 Volvo started Installing laminated windshields (Legal requirement 25 years later)

1959 Volvo engineer Nils Bohlin developed what is used today you daily 3 point seat belt.

In the sixty's and seventy's some Volvo cars had two sets (backup set) of brake systems in case one failed. The company also had rear and front crumple zones for better force distribution in their cars. The steering column was designed to collapse during a crash.

Volvo safety was so renowned across the world that in 1976 US government bought 24 Volvo cars to conduct their own safety tests. US has used the results form the tests to set uniform safety standards for all new cars in America.

Side Impact Air bags were developed by Volvo.

There is a huge list of things this company developed safety wise, and a growing list of things this company is doing to help out the environment.
