I'm trying to make my own songs, I have an instrumental and a mic, is there a program that I can get that will let me record for over a minute unlike the standard windows sound recorder? Preferably in Mp3 format.

I find the Audacity program not so user friendly and you have to install a free add-on program for creating MP3 files.

My favorite program for creating audio in several formats including MP3 and at different bit rates is Creative Media Source Organizer. This program will allow you to record from the microphone input of your sound card and will even record "What You Hear" meaning anything that is being played by your computer.

Yes, definately Audacity. You can record, edit etc with this program easily. Download it here:

With just Audacity alone, it exports in .WAV files. You have to DL a seperate codec to be able to export in .MP3 format (or if you have a file converter, use that).
