1 1/2? This is too early of an age to potty train. Wait until she is 2 then see how she feels about it.

To those that say 18 months is too early, thats not the case at all. Of course you can't expect a one and a half year old child to be FULLY trained but most children should be phsically and mentally aware enough to start the process. Start off slowly, if she gets off the potty again right after being sat down on it, don't make a big production, tell her she's a good girl and leave it at that for a couple of days. She'll gradually get used to it, and give her extra attention when she actually pees in it (that will most likely happen before pooping). Once she makes the connection of what is supposed to happen she will start using it on her own. Encourage this behaviour also. It's ok too to wait another 2 or 3 months if she really isn't ready, but there is no reason why girls can't be fully trained by 3 or 4, even at night.

Start by routinely placing her on the potty when she gets up in the morning and after her nap(s) or 10-15 minutes after she finishes a whole sippy cup of liquid. Give her something to do while she is sitting there, a toy or book maybe. Get her in the routine of visiting the bathroom frequently and let her go with you when you go. It is training and it will take time but use a lot of praise and try not to be hard on her just yet. She'll get the hang of it.

I have potty educated my two boys and a niece I babysit all earlier than the age of two.....I simply positioned them in lingerie and buckled all the way down to handling the mess for a couple of days. Have tons of fresh garments available, tons of persistence, and a sticky label chart regularly is helping. When they get 10 stickers for going then take them to get ice cream or anything. Use tons of encouragement....a timer is helping with reminding you each whilst it's time to take a look at once more. Don't quit and be steady. If you permit it move as soon as.......it's like commencing from scratch. I additionally positioned them within the bathtub and wash them with fairly cool water whilst they've an twist of fate.....it is helping deter long term mishaps!! Good good fortune!

Here's a good link: http://www.keepkidshealthy.com/parenting%5Ftips/potty%5Ftraining/ 18 months is the very early edge of readiness, so be watching for signs that she's even ready. Make it a gradual transition. It's okay to let her see YOU "go potty" so she gets the idea... and it's easier if it's not such a foreign idea when you finally bring up the idea of HER using the potty instead of a diaper.

I'm not able to help as I havent started yet with my 14mth old, but I read your ? to see what I should do... the answers were pretty much to wait! I've had lots of people tell me they had their children potty trained before 1yr old, so I guess it's possible. I just read a book that says 2yrs is really the earliest to start, who knows!!

when she does something correctly, reward her. Even reward sincere attempts that are close to the desired behavior. Don't use too much discipline when she makes mistakes, but rely on consistently rewarding the good behavior. Rewards might be a high five, a hug, a sticker, a few Froot Loops, a piggyback ride, a gummy bear, etc.

She is too young! Wait about six-nine months longer before you even consider it. A potty chair at that time, casually left in the bathroom-when she shows an interest in using it-until then-please, please, don't push it! Take care.
