ear temp is not accurate. rectal temp is the only way to get an accurate temp. i had a kitty with a fever--they do not tolerate fevers. after the fever she had a hard time accommodating to cold. she did live thru the fever, thank heavens--kitty wont like it, but it is not hard to do the rectal temp on a sick kitty. they know youare momms and cooperate sorta--holsd kitty securely so kitty cannot bite and talk to kittty while you are doing the temp and it will all be ok.......let kitty know you are momms and kitty will know you are only trying to make kitty feel better.

good luck and i hope kitty is better soon. call your vet for more help--they are glad to assist.

A three week old that may have a fever is VERY dangerous. The ONLY way to take a cats temp is rectally and if you are not comfortable doing it, you shouldn't, as you can insert it too far and cause damage. I really hope this kitten is with the momma still!!

Call the vet ASAP, any time a kitten this young has a fever, it is deadly. Kittens can not regulate their own temperature this early in life.

BTW -= an ear temp is not an option, as there isn't an accurate ear temp to have. Rectally, on an adult cat, the temp should be 101.5*F and kitten are 96* to 100*F (rectally!!).

You can't take an accurate ear temperature on a dog or cat. Their anatomy just isn't the same. They make thermometers for taking ear temps in pets, but they just don't give consistent results. A rectal temperature is really the only good way to take a temp. If your kitten is having problems, you should make an appointment with your vet. 3 weeks old is very young. Is she with her mother or are you bottle feeding her?

The best and most accurate way to take a cats temp in annaly but at 3 weeks old you really need to take her to a vet like previously stated. She is very tiny and her immune system isnt built up yet.

The average temperature of a cat is probably alittle over 100. That's normal but if a few degrees over that he or she can have a flu, just go to the vet and see whats wrong or check unusuall behaviors to food, using the litterbox, or playing with toys.

If you have any doubts about her health take her to the vet. At 3 weeks old she can get very ill very quickly, best not take chances.
