Why do people think Mormons are pretty much like the Omish? We aren't really. I just want to know why you think that.

Sorry, okay, so we aren't like the Amish, but we don't marry young women to old men.

You are a Mormon woman, I assume. Do they really let you pursue higher education? What about deciding who to marry? If so, I will cease criticism of Mormons.

For starters, it's Amish. People associate all Mormons with the ones seen on Dateline, who wear long dresses, don't talk to outsiders, follow the "Prophet" and marry young girls to old men. That's the main issue I personally have with Mormons. I know not all Mormons are like that, but since that's the image the media plays, that's the image Americans picture.

As a lot of people said, no one thinks Mormons are Amish.

A big problem with Mormonism is the belief that Joseph Smith's book is an "addition" to the Bible, yet is filled with errors and contradictions. Another major issue I have with Mormonism is that they teach Jesus and Satan are brothers.

LOL..."like the Omish." That's classic. Can I quote that?

And the implication is that you, for your part, think the "Omish" are "bad." Probably because they're not Mormons, right?

Anyway, my main theoretical issue with the Mormons is the whole Christianity thing, you know, the anti-sex, book-burning religion of oppression and superstition (in most of its forms). On a personal level, I've been friends with many Mormons. It's amazing, the ordinary human capacity to get along in spite of whatever sorts of dogmatic bigotries one's religion encourages one to maintain.

Some people think Mormons have many wives and the men forcibly marry little girls who maybe their relatives.

When people don't fully understand something they think badly of it and fail to find out the truth.

***note the Amish are nothing at all like the Mormons....whole different ball-game.

Mormons added to the word of God the word of a man - Joseph Smith. They made their own book.

They claim to be christian their beliefs are not doctrinally sound.

A christian follows only scripture. Not the words of another man. There is only one gospel. Not two.

There are many things that are not accurate about mormonism. If you study both sides of the argument you'll come to your own conclusions.

Just don't take what everyone says as gospel without testing it against the only word of God - the bible.

It is not questioning your faith that is wrong, what is wrong is you don't test your faith to make sure you believe what you believe...

They are a part of the cult. Which is to say....any religion that goes against Jesus Christ being the Son of God. You are probably thought of similar as Amish because of the spiritual underwear you wear.......it's kinda strange.

I like Mormons, except for when they stop by uninvited to sell their beliefs. Except for that they're really nice people (at least the ones I know). Oh, the other problem is most of their ritual is derived from Free Masonry (nothing agains Masons, just that the religion copied...)

I don't think that there is anything wrong with them. A large part of my dad's family is Mormon.
Sweetest people on the face of the planet.
My Grandfather(r.i.p.) was an awesome man. All he would do was help his family and others. He tried to show nothing but compassion. He would never say he was proud of his children, because he believed pride to be dangerous. He would always say he was so "pleased" with his children, and that he loved them. He tried to do nothing but help others his entire life, and I see nothing wrong with that.

I think they are wonderful, sweet, loving people. Hard workers. Unfortunately, they are totally confused about the meaning Scripture and the whacky principles that their religion was founded upon (plural marriage, Adam being God, becoming Gods themselves, baptizing the dead, etc.)

Other than that, nothing.

Are the Om-ish Hindus? (sorry, bad pun)
