it's been 13 days since I got my first tattoo. It's just about finished sheding the outside layer of color.

No, sunscreen is fine. It helps keep it moisturized and prevents fading if it's exposed to the sun.

yes u have to wait DO NOT put anything on it, and when u get at tattoo u r suppose to avoid tanning beds and direct sunlight for 60 days. sun and sun exposer can fade the ink in the tattoo very fast when it is healing. the only thing u should be putting on it right now is water and a mild soap when u clean it. they have a special sun-screen just for tattoos, that blocks out the uv rays from the sun and keeps the tattoo from fading. contact your local tattoo shop and ask them about it, i am not sure of the name, i would have to go look, but i can tell u this the people who make "tattoo goo" for when your tat is healing, they r the same people who manufacture the sun screen. hope i was helpful.

definetely start using protection on it. it is best to use non--scented lotion like lubriderm or something like that for the first week or so, but it has been two weeks for you, and if the scabing is gone and it is just a little flaky, then go for the sun protection. it will be very important for you to protect your tat from sun as it is the number one cause of fading. you want it to stay looking new! :)

sun screen does not protect the ink in your tattoo. sun screen protects your skin. ink is different than skin. do not get your tattoo out in the sun. i WILL fade and look awful within a few short years.

I'd wait till it IS completely healed. I'm thinking that suncreen on top of partially raw skin may cause an infection.
