i believe that humans are beautiful in every stage of life. i think it is a betrayal and an injustice to yourself and all of humanity to say that the body becomes ugly as it ages.

i am posting this here, because so many people use aging as a reason to not get a tattoo..... well i just don't agree. i believe the artwork AND THE PERSON will be just as beautiful the day they get the tattoo as they are the day they die.

any contradictions?

and not that the haters will end out reading this, but i just want to add the fact that i am a CNA, and work with the elderly, one on one and in acute and sub acute care facilities, i have given personal care to more elderly persons than i can count, so i think i have a foot to stand on with my opinion

i couldn't agree more!

you wrinkle and sag as you get older anyway, so to not get a tattoo because "it wont look good when I'm older," makes no sense to me.
when you are 70, do you really care what people think of you?
and if you do, why would you spend the last years of your precious life stressing out over it anyway?

i also see comments about being a grandparent with tattoos.
the way i see it is, if you are foolish enough to think that your grandchildren/future grandchildren will have something against you because you have tattoos, then that is your own sad family issue that needs to be dealt with through psychologists, not through Yahoo Answers!

seriously! what do the people who make these types of comments base their family values on?
i mean, would you have something against your own grandmother if you found out that she had a tattoo on her butt that she got when she was 18? you probably didn't even know it was there!
personally, i know that my family will love me no matter what.

i honestly feel bad for the people who waste their time, living for everything but the present.
when i am an elder, i don't want to be the old woman who spent her whole life thinking, "what if?"
before you know it, life is going to be over, and this body that you are so concerned over now, wont even go with you when you cross over to the other side!

but if everyone is so concerned with the way they will look when they get old, then they should stop taning, which ruins their skin, stop eating junk food, which promotes obesity which leads to a shorter life span.
they should also stop smoking, doing other drugs, stop drinking alchohol, etc., because there are a lot more things to be worried about if you actually want to LIVE long enough to be elderly.
most people dont even realize how big of a hypocrite they can be!

sorry for the long rant, this subject just interests me a lot!
LIVE FOR TODAY, NOT TOMORROW!!
LIVE LONG AND HAPPY!!

I think the aging argument against tattooing is bogus too, but it doesn't have to do with the elderly body being "disgusting." It has to do with our contemporary ideas of what old people should look like. It's hard to imagine an elderly person today with a tattoo, but since tattoos are so common now among young people, by the time this generation gets older, ink will no longer be taboo among the elderly.

I like the positive thought that you have shared with your view and when I give it consideration I would have to say I agree with you. My hair became grey early. Amazing how many are more comfortable with me if I dye it. To me the grey/white/silver is beautiful and as of a year ago I have allowed it to become natural again and I believe I am looking my best now; not when there was fake colour in my hair.

When it comes to tattoo I believe it is all in the matter of good taste. Some tattoes are ugly. It's like anything connected with art. Its a matter of your own interpertation of it. I am a small women and if I decide to get a tatto I would get one that blends with the uniqueness of my size. So far I have not found a design that I like.

The body is a miricle at all stages of its existence :-)

Well my dear,Bless your sweet heart,You have made my day.
I have never heard your question before. I have never thought of myself in that light. I have a smile on my face as I type because whoever is making this statement, if he/she winds up to be as blessed as I "Whoopee" they will have reached their own diagnosis. I have been a wonderful daughter to a very ill & dying Mother. I have been a loving wife for 54 years to a man who prowdly served his country from WW2 ending with 3 tours of Viet Nam while I raised a familyof 5 children.. Every line in my skin has a story of its own and I am growing as old as the Lord wants me to. My husband has loved me since he met me at 13, married me at 22 and today at 76 my disgusting body is full of beauty from the inside out..As far as a tattoo on my body, I wouldn't dare.
Did I have any contradictions ?? I don't know --- I don't care---

I blame this idea mainly on the media, they have a lot of influence on people's perceptions. Media messages do not always reflect truth.

On a side note, what makes older individuals beautiful people is not their body, but their wisdom, patience, and steadfastness.

Tattoos are more of a method of self-exprssion than beauty enhancement

I am 23 and just decided to permanently remove my eyebrow ring because it did not seem to match this stage of my life

I think yes, we get gross as gravity pulls us downward and everything sags and wrinkles. Just cuz we get old and wrinkly doesn't meaen the human spirit has sagged. We're still the same person inside and as for tatoos, age is a dumb excuse. But, my tattoos will NOT be as beautiful in 50 years as they were the day I got them. They'll be faded and sagged. But who cares? Ill have lived my life and i'll be old. Whatever, they tell a story and thats cool. You only live once.

Old has its own beauty. It is not 'disgusting' it is just different than new. Age can have beauty all its own.

The problem with a tattoo is that it is so permanent, it would be nice if we could wear different tattoos like we wear different clothes.

because society associates youth and beauty as one and the same. and frankly most of us, if given a choice would like to keep the supple wrinklefree skin of our youth. i would much rather always look 25 than to one day look 70.

People don't want to see what will happen to themselves, they deny their own aging and mortality. Given we're a culture so ruled by youth and beauty, it's hard to see any alternatives to "perfection" as being beautiful.

Its sad isn't it!!! How ignorant people can be!! Getting old is apart of life, just like being a baby, and then a teen, and so on!! and just like getting old,, death, is also apart of life!! And some young people are in for a "Wake-Up" call, when they get old, aren't they?!!! Smile!!! I have nothing but RESPECT, for the Elderly!!! It runs in our family!!! We all were taught "Good-Morals!!" Unlike some people!!! AH-HUM!!!
