I found a great place in MDR and a decent place right next to work. I am wondering if it would be worth the extra commute time to get the MDR apartment. I know the 405 is a nightmare but is it possible to bypass all that traffic by taking local streets (PCH perhaps). The MDR apartment is right by the marina and my work is near Bundy and SM Blvd btw.

For Los Angeles, that commute will be pretty easy. It's all surface streets for the most part and after a while, you'll get to know the little shortcuts...the "local" routes that get you around that long light on Olympic...

I used to live on my boat in Marina del Rey and commute up PCH to Agoura Hills... It was pleasant enough to do every day for a few years. You'll love the Marina area...very safe and clean air! MdR to SM? I could do that with my eyes closed...but I wouldn't recommend trying that. : )

It IS a nice area, since it's by the marina. The only down side is the commute, which can be 30-60 minutes to Hollywood.

p.s. There are surface streets you can take - I think Olympic, maybe??? Try mapquest...

say about a 1/2 -to 45 mintues you can take Lincoln Blvd to Broadway or Santa Monica, then Broadway/Santa Monica to Bundy
or Pacific (gets a little busy during the summer) that street becomes nelson way in Santa Monica,
another idea to use
Oceanview (becomes Venice way at Venice to Main-
