kicking, screaming, crying child? I tried sitting on him, immobilizing his arms and legs and his brother held his head...but he clamped his eyes shut. I tried to pry them open and get the drops in but I think he cried most of them out.

Before this seemingly barbaric situation, I had tried talking, bribing, cajoleing, threatening to take everything away before it got to that point. Believe me, the sitting on him thing was the last resort.

Anyone have any good ideas? We have to do it again this evening.

First talk to him and remind him that he knows you love him and would never want to hurt him and then of the reason for the eye drops. Ask him why he doesn't like it. It's probably just scary. So, get him to lay his head back. Drip the drops in the corners of his eyes then get him to open his eyes. As long as the eye drops don't burn then he should be OK with this but if they do burn then well, I don't know what to tell ya. If they burn then wouldn't want the drops in my eyes either.

If it's just drops like visine then switch them with something like OptiFree Rewetting drops for contact lens wearers. It's just a light saline and won't burn at all but will wash out chlorine or should work fine for dry eyes.

Good luck to you and I feel sorry for your poor little baby boy. It's natural to not want things in your eyes.

The easiest was is to have him on his back and put the drops in the inside corner of his eyes. When he opens them or blinks the drops will go in. You may have to hold his head but I really think that it is more traumatizing for parents than the child. Just remind him that you are doing it to help him. Offer lots of hugs and maybe a treat when it is all over.

Yes I had alot of problems with my daughter with that. Instead of being tough with him try to be very tender and sweet. Just let him lay down on his side and have him leave his eyes shut and ask him to blink after you put a drop on the side or in the corner.
See if that works. Good luck.

If you are talking about polysporin eyedrops my mom claims that you can use the cream and just put it on the eye.

If you are talking about prescription medication talk to the pharmacist they may be able to give you a cream instead of drops. As far as I know all eyedrops are available as creams as well. You just rub it on the eye and it slowly works it's way into the eye.

Good luck!

Well some of the drops come in spraises instead of eye drops, and you spray it in your eyes. My sister did the same thing. Even with shots we had to use the spray lol. Well I hope this helps!!

my husband had to hold our son down so I could give him eye drops and his brother thought we were hurting him and started to beat up on us (good little bro protecting his big bro, LOL) after that I decided to wait until he fell asleep and then put the drops in his eyes so much easier for me & him.

allow him to do it to you first. then you do it to him. my three yearold had a splinter. i had to remove it with a needle and tweezers. i showed him what i was going to do by doing it to myself first. he understood it was going to hurt but not that bad and he was ok with it and even sat still to let me do it. good luck.

get somebody to give them to you first, so he can see what is going to happen.
