I'm looking for the type that often come in a small skinny jar that you eat as a snack. They are usually pickled and come packed in olive oil or other brine. They typically have a very mild taste. I've found these in ethnic food stores before, but usually they are expensive and the jars are small. Do you know of any good brands and where to find them?

If you find them expensive the best option is to make them yourself then you will always have plenty:

Pickled Garlic Cloves
4 heads garlic (or more)
2 cups red wine vinegar
2 cups water
1 cup sugar
6 whole cloves (the spice)
2 tablespoons black peppercorns

Separate garlic cloves, but do not peel.
Place all ingredients in a large heavy-bottom saucepan.
Bring to a boil, cook for 10 minutes, stirring from time to time.
Reduce heat to moderate and cook 5 minutes.
Cool to room temperature.
Transfer to a large glass or ceramic jar large enough to hold garlic and the liquid.
Tightly seal.
Refrigerate at least 1 month before serving.
The garlic improves with age.

The recipe above is cool if you are making pesto, but if you want roasted garlic I suggest using a terracotta garlic roaster. But if you want to pickle garlic you should not roast it first. It will basically dissolve in the pickling juices.

You can find these at most Meijer grocery stores. I'ts kept with the fresh minced garlic in the ethnic food aisle. I think they have herb roasted as well.
