OK the reason is it conditions the hair because it contains oil which makes the hair soft and shiny and eggs which have proteins, and hair is made up mostly of proteins. However it does have a strong odor to it, so you really have to wash it out several times, which defeats the whole purpose of doing it!
There are very good conditioning professional products out there that you can use. If you don't know any, ask your hairdresser I'm sure she can do something for you in the Salon, and or recommend something for you to use at home on a regular basis.

Its good for conditioning dry hair. I wouldn't use though just b/c its mayonnaise and I can imagine the smell. There is an actual hair product called Cholesterol that is a good conditioner.

Putting hair mayonnaise in your hair helps condition it. If u have really dry hair it keeps it from breaking off especially if u have color on ur hair. Its a really good deep conditioner also.

It def. doesn't make your hair grow faster but it does make it a lot softer. one time at work, a grill pretty much blew up in my face and singed my bangs..they were really dry and brittle so i went home, almost in tears, and my mom told me to try mayonnaise..it really helped, and after a little trim you couldn't even tell

The same reason why you put raw eggs in your hair.

To condition damaged hair.

I don't think it's worth trying however. Think about the stench that would cause.

It's like an industrial stregth conditioner, but I don't recommend it. My aunt did a mayonnaise treatment on me and my cousin when we were kids and now neither one of us can stand mayonnaise.
