Don't trust it. Over the counter meds are used for prevention, not treatment. The meds are not nearly as strong as what you get at the vet and not to mention, you first need to know what worms you are dealing with. A stool sample will need to be taken to the vet.

Just because he uses the litterpan a lot doesn't mean he has worms. Have you seen any signs of a worm infestation (little white worms around his anus, finding pieces of what look like grains of rice or sesame seeds around his bedding or anus, seeing worms in his stool) If not, I wouldn't recommend giving him any worm meds as there a lot of different types of worms out there, and as far as I know, there isn't a medication you can buy over OTC that will work on all forms of worms. The OTC brands are quite expensive ($15-40 a bottle depending on the type of worm being treated) and they do not work as well as the stuff from the vet. If you are concerned that he may have worms, call your vet and see about taking him in for a worm check.

Also, if he does have worms, you will have to treat for fleas since many worms are transmitted by them. (Frontline is my personal choice)

basically because he makes use of the litterpan a lot does not propose he has worms. have you ever considered any indications of a operating laptop or computer virus infestation (little white worms round his anus, searching products of what seem as if grains of rice or sesame seeds round his bedding or anus, seeing worms in his stool) If not, i does not propose giving him any computer virus meds as there countless sorts of worms obtainable, and so a procedures as i recognize, there is not a drugs you may purchase over OTC which will artwork on all kinds of worms. The OTC manufacturers are quite severe priced ($15-40 a bottle searching on the style of computer virus being treated) and they don't artwork as well because the stuff from the vet. in case you difficulty that he would have worms, call your vet and see about taking him in for a operating laptop or computer virus verify. also, if he does have worms, you would possibly want to attend to for fleas when you consider that many worms are transmitted through them. (Frontline is my own determination)

Don't just give your cat medicine because you think he might need it. It could be harmful, especially without the direction of a vet.

Usually intestinal parasites will cause diarrhea, blood in the stool, mucous in the stool... no generally just pooping a lot.

You can take in a fresh sample (no more than one hour old or kept in the refrigerator for up to 6 hours) to your vet for them to check for intestinal parasites. If your cat is positive, they can give you an effective dewormer.

If your cat just produces a lot of stool, you might consider switching to a higher quality diet. Generally, lower quality foods are harder to digest and more of it passes through your cat's digestive tract, while higher quality foods are more completely digested resulting in fewer bowel movements.

Prevention is good--but to know for sure you need to take a sample(of the poop) to the vet and have them check to see that he doesn't have a type of worm you haven't treated him for--
